Ching-Shan Chang is a composer of multimedia scores and concert music based in Los Angeles. She was mentored by composer Tom Holkenborg (aka Junkie XL) in 2019 and is now heavily working alongside him as additional composer - her credits can be found in studio films such as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Paramount Pictures). She has also scored numerous short films with one of them through collaboration with director Guilherme Pedra titled Elsewhere (A Flor Azul) being a milestone with its successful performance across film festivals including the 71st International Cannes Film Festival. Ching-Shan has won several Best Music awards and has also excelled in film music competitions such as International Berlin Film Scoring Competition, and Krakow FMF Young Talent Awards. Moreover, she was the first Asian female composer to win the Golden Eye in the 8th International Zurich Film Music Competition for her score in Danny and the Wild Bunch.
Before she started her career as a film composer, she has participated in several workshops such as NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Woman in Music Scholarship from Sorel Organization, The Mentor Program from The Society of Composers and Lyricists, the ASCAP/ Columbia Film Scoring Workshop, and an opportunity to work for Carter Burwell briefly.
Aside from Ching-Shan's works in the multimedia world, she has also been contributing music for trailers, commercials and concert settings. She's been commissioned by a variety of performers and orchestras and is a long time collaborators of National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra - they've worked on projects such as the musical Once Upon an Island, orchestral arrangements of Taiwanese folk tunes and the national anthem. As another commission Images of Kaohsiung - "Cangue of Freedom" premiered by Evergreen Symphony Orchestra received extremely positive feedback, she continues to compose more concert music in between movies.
