Matt Kinsman
- Actor
- Writer
- Director
Matt grew up in Christchurch, New Zealand. As a one of five kids, Matt always loved art and as a longtime fan of WWF tapes and action movies on VHS growing up, it was only a matter of time before he would start follow his heart and try to find a way of making his own action movies.
Matt's first start in Martial arts was training in Karate as a salesman in 2009 before working at a local video shop for a stretch. Seeing nothing would change unless he changed, Matt moved with his wife to Auckland 2011 to study film making at SAE Institute.
Auckland is where most of the films and TV work is shot in New Zealand so he figured this would be the best move if he was serious about chasing his dream. During this year of study he also did some background work in numerous NZ television shows, commercials and a couple of features. This ticked off a couple goals from the checklist, the next goals are having lines on camera in others work and creating his own work.
After finding full-time work outside of the industry, Matt has continued his love of action films by practicing his craft and creating his own projects as he works towards his goal of making entertaining martial arts action films that can stand proudly next to those of his heroes.
He has created 2 web series. 'The Bullet list' was released in 2015 and in 'Alive' was released in 2017. Both averaged 60 minutes and the latter was accepted into Action on film festival as a short film which inspired him to continue this journey.
As of early 2020 Matt is working on his full length independent feature project with a targeted release of early 2021, hopefully you will finally see his name alongside his heroes on those video store shelves he worked at so long ago.
