Chenglin Xie (b. China 1994) is a Student Academy Award Gold Medal winner, Annie Award nominee and Sundance Film Festival (2016, 2022) alumni. He received his BFA degree from China Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2016, and MFA degree from School of Cinematic Arts of University of Southern California in 2019. Chenglin lives and works in Los Angeles as a director and a story artist at Netflix.
Chenglin's best known animated short film, Life Smartphone(2015), has won Gold Medal of 44th Student Academy Awards® at International Animation Category, has been in shortlist for Best Animated Shorts of 90th Academy Awards® , and has been nominated for 43rd Annie Award in the category for "Best Student Film." Chenglin's work has been selected by many significant film festivals across the world, including Sundance film festival, Annecy international animation festival, San Francisco international film festival, etc. Life Smartphone had been viewed by more than 310,000,000 times in Chinese Internet in 2015.
In 2015, Chenglin was honored to be listed as the top5 director in the "Top30 Short Film Directors In China Of The Year". In 2018, he was honored as one of the "Top 10 Outstanding Chinese America Youth".
In 2022, Chenglin's latest animated short film, Meal On The Plate, will be premiering at 2022 Sundance Film Festival, which is his 2nd Sundance selection.
