Garland Triest was an American musician and voice actor best known for his vocal contributions to the films As Above, So Below (2014) and Krampus (2015), as well as his rock band Angelrage. A native of Spalding, Michigan, Triest was born July 4, 1966 to Robert and Stella Triest, of French, Belgian, German, and Irish ancestry. Triest moved to Iron Mountain, Michigan in 1991 and had a very successful run as a music teacher and guitarist of local band Black Diamond until a 1997 car accident left him disabled for nearly 3 years. Defying doctors who told him he would probably never be able to perform onstage again, Triest eventually recovered and moved to California in April of 2000, playing guitar with Deadbyday and Lunatics On Parole before launching his own band, Angelrage, releasing the CD, Omega, in October of 2009. The band featured several extreme vocal styles, and at some point, friends in the film industry encouraged him to pursue voice acting. His first break came in an uncredited appearance in As Above, So Below (2014), voicing several characters. During recording sessions, it was found that many of the techniques Triest used singing with Angelrage worked very well to produce monster type character voices; particularly a blood-curdling, multi-pitch shriek which became his trademark sound. This sound was later used to great effect in Krampus (2015) as Der Klown.
