Biography

    • John Ruane is an accomplished actor and writer from Chicago, now living in the Atlanta area. After graduating from Chicago State University as an English major and two-sport athlete (hockey and baseball), John began his career as a feature writer for the Chicago Sun-Times. Following an interview with a Second City actress, she encouraged him to attend the famed theater's workshops to develop his satirical writing for the stage. After two years of training in improvisation, acting and writing, John wrote and performed in four sketch comedy revues with The Chi-Town Players. Several of his comedic roles in those critically-acclaimed shows were highlighted by the Chicago Tribune and Sun-Times. A critic from the Chicago Reader called him, "A cross between Jackie Gleason and the Belushi brothers." John then went on to write, direct and produce a full-length rock musical, which received rave reviews from 5 Chicago theater critics. He then wrote and starred in a short film, "Comedy on Rye," for NBC Chicago, and television pilot, "Deckinger's Place," for CBS Chicago. Since then, he has gone on to appear in several films and television shows, including "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago PD." In addition to his acting work, John is an accomplished author of six books including his first two thriller novels in the Dylan Reilly series, "A Dangerous Freedom," and "Russian Assault." On the personal side, John and his wife raised four wonderful children.
