John Costella grew up in Melbourne, Australia, the son of John J. Costella and Helena Costella. He attended St. Kevin's College, Toorak, and the University of Melbourne. His public debut was in "JFK Symposium: The Zapruder Film - Is Seeing Believing in the Assassination of JFK?" in 2003. In 2012 he moved to the United States with his wife Sally. They became U.S. citizens in 2020 and live in Washington, DC.
