Zane Holtz in First Trailer for Small Town Mystery 'Beyond the Night'

"Do you think that a man's demons can be passed down to his son?" Breaking Glass Pictures has released the first official trailer for Beyond the Night, a mysterious thriller set in a small coal mining town. The film premiered at the Woodstock and Austin Film Festivals earlier this year, and is getting a small release in January. When a soldier's son reveals damning information about a local gangster's missing daughter, a war of attrition wreaks havoc on their forgotten mining town. Jason Noto's Beyond the Night stars Zane Holtz, with Tammy Blanchard, Azhy Robertson, Caitlin Mehner, Chance Kelly, David Fierro, Enid Graham, and Neal Huff. There seems to be some kind of supernatural element to this, but it's a bit more subtle than most horror films. I really enjoy the moody atmosphere of this, I'm quite curious about the film. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Jason Noto's Beyond the Night,

Hurricane Katrina Vampire Movie Is Coming from The Shallows Writer

Screenwriter Anthony Jaswinski has been on a roll lately following his hit film, The Shallows, which featured Blake Lively vs shark and made a killing at the box office. And now we have word that Lionsgate is in final negotiations to acquire his vampire spec script The French Quarter Will Not Be Spared. As you might imagine at this point in time, the details regarding the plot of the screenplay are being kept under tight wraps. But that said, we do know that the film is a new take on the vampire genre set in New Orleans, get this, during hurricane Katrina. Interesting.

More interesting still is that the powers that be behind the scenes of this new vampire-during-hurricane flick is that the goal of the production is to make a "visceral and socially relevant horror film" in the vein of John Krasinski's A Quiet Place and/or writer-director Jordan Peele's Get Out.

John Gallagher Jr. is Set To Star in Amblin's Upcoming Monster Film Larry

Amblin Entertainment is developing a new horror film called Larry and they’ve just cast John Gallagher Jr. in the movie. He will join the previously cast Gillian Jacobs (Community) and Azhy Robertson.

Jacob Chase is set to write and direct the film. The story follows a young boy and his family who become the target of a terrifying monster who manifests through high-tech devices like smartphones and other screen devices.

The project is based on a short film and the aim is to “create a grounded horror film in the vein of The Ring and Poltergeist.”

This sounds like it will be a great horror project that will fit in perfectly with the Amblin brand. I also like Gallagher and the projects he’s made and this will be a cool film for him to be a part of.

Amblin Acquiring Julian Terry’s Horror Short ‘Whisper’ For Fright Feature

  • Deadline
Exclusive: Amblin Partners is closing a deal to turn the horror short Whisper into a feature film. Julian Terry, who directed the short, is finalizing a deal to helm the movie.

The Picture Company partners Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman are producing. Bryce McGuire will write the script. The short is a scary scenario in which household tech devices are used as a gateway for a supernatural entity that has scores to settle. Sources say the feature version has a Poltergeist feel which seems a good fit for Amblin. The producers shopped the package last week and Amblin execs Andrew Calof and Jeb Brody moved quickly to secure it.

The short lasts just long enough to create a scare, and its brevity and proof of concept makes it reminiscent of shorts like Mama, the Spanish short film that launched the careers of It‘s Andy and Barbara Muschietti.

Juliet, Naked – Review

Rose Byrne and Ethan Hawke in Juliet, Naked. Photo courtesy of Roadside Attractions.

First off, there is no nudity in Juliet, Naked nor is there anyone named Juliet. The title refers to an album by a long-vanished indie rock singer-songwriter. There is, however, a lot of humor, romantic conundrums, reflections on regrets and life mid-way, and of course, music, in this warmly entertaining adaptation of Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name.

Complicated romances, humor and music are the staples of Nick Hornby’s novels. The film Juliet, Naked fits the mold but unlike High Fidelity, director Jesse Peretz’s take on that combination leans more humorous than romantic. Yet just when it seems to be settling into a standard romantic comedy mold, it takes an unexpected turn into the more serious and thoughtful. The people in this film are approaching middle age or already there, and are re-assessing

Movie Review – Juliet, Naked (2018)

Juliet, Naked, 2018.

Directed by Jesse Peretz.

Starring Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, Chris O’Dowd, Megan Dodds, Lily Newmark, Jimmy O. Yang, Azhy Robertson, Ayoola Smart, Lily Brazier, Johanna Thea, Georgina Bevan, and Tom Patrick Stephens.

Synopsis:

Juliet, Naked is the story of Annie (the long-suffering girlfriend of Duncan) and her unlikely transatlantic romance with once revered, now faded, singer-songwriter, Tucker Crowe, who also happens to be the subject of Duncan’s musical obsession.

Juliet, Naked is billed as a romantic comedy (and I would assume also heavily marketed as one), and while it the most effective offering from the genre in quite some time, it’s character study aspects are what truly make it stand out. Ethan Hawke continues to have a banner year, here portraying a fictional celebrated former rock star named Tucker Crowe who has lived out the majority of his adult life hiding away from the outside world.

“Juliet, Naked” is a low key romantic charmer

Earlier this week, I took a look at Ethan Hawke’s latest directorial effort. Today, we’ll be looking at his newest starring role. The movie in question is Juliet, Naked, which is based on the charming Nick Hornby book of the same name. This week, the adaptation hits theaters, offering up something mellow and nice for audiences. Hawke getting to play an elusive rock star would suggest a far harder edged affair than this, but it makes for a nice little change of pace. You won’t necessarily see any raves about this kind of flick, but you need them. They’re comfort food, cinematically speaking. The film is described, via IMDb, as such: “Juliet, Naked is the story of Annie (the long-suffering girlfriend of Duncan) and her unlikely transatlantic romance with once revered, now faded, singer-songwriter, Tucker Crowe, who also happens to be the subject of Duncan’s musical obsession.

‘Juliet, Naked’ Premiere: Rose Byrne Recalls Kylie Minogue Obsession
The stormy weather in New York City dried up on Tuesday and the sun came out just in time for the premiere of “Juliet, Naked.”

A gleeful crowd gathered at the swanky Metrograph for the screening of the romantic comedy starring Rose Byrne, Ethan Hawke, and Chris O’Dowd.

The film, based on Nick Hornby’s novel of the same name, centers on Annie (Rose), who is stuck in a failing relationship with her husband Duncan (O’Dowd). Things get complicated when Anne has an unexpected encounter with her husband’s musical obsession, an obscure rocker named Tucker Crowe (Hawke).

Byrne walked the red carpet in a stunning Dior dress as her husband Bobby Cannavale watched from the sidelines.

Byrne revealed that she had her own music obsession back in the day. Her dad took her to five Kylie Minogue concerts when she was a pre-teen. “I am from Australia

Ethan Hawke & Rose Byrne in Official Trailer for Comedy 'Juliet, Naked'

"Do you think there's any way back for me?" Roadside Attractions has released the first trailer for an indie comedy titled Juliet, Naked, adapted from Nick Hornby's novel of the same name. This premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, but feels much more like a mainstream comedy than an indie flick. Rose Byrne stars in this film as a woman in a relationship with a chummy guy, played by Chris O'Dowd, who is obsessed with one particular band. When their relationship falls apart, the band's lead musician re-appears after 25 years and connects with Byrne, who falls into a relationship with him, making things extra awkward with her ex. Ethan Hawke stars as the musician who is tired of attention, and the supporting cast includes Megan Dodds, Jimmy O. Yang, Lily Newmark, and Azhy Robertson. It's a sweet little film, basically a comedy about "life's second chances

Sundance Review: ‘Juliet, Naked’ is an Earnest Romantic Comedy

What if Troy Dyer from Reality Bites put out one, cult sad sack album in the 90s and then disappeared? Such is the spark of Juliet, Naked, a nifty crowd-pleasing three-hander from Jesse Peretz, based on the Nick Hornby novel of the same name. The forever charming Rose Byrne stars as Annie, a forty-ish woman living in a solitary seaside town in England with her boyfriend Duncan (Chris O’Dowd), a teacher who’s obsessed with recluse musician Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke). In fact, Duncan runs a fan site for and populated by fellow Crowe obsessives, all fantasizing and mythologizing on potential shelved masterpieces, wayward gossip, and countless interpretations of his sole album Juliet.

When Duncan is gifted with a demo entitled Juliet, Naked, featuring raw recordings of the same old tracks, an annoyed Annie retaliates with a negative comment on Duncan’s website. Her words prompt a positive reaction from Crowe himself,
