Matthew James is a Film & Television Composer based in Burbank, CA. Recent works include the feature films, "The Djinn" (IFC Midnight/Showtime) and "Detained" (Laz Alonso/Abbie Cornish).
At the young age of 7, Matthew found his calling in music. Humble beginnings with piano, pipe organ and clarinet set the foundation for his life. With over 25 years of experience as a multi-instrumentalist, composer, songwriter, lyricist, engineer, producer, band leader combined with his studies in film making, he ensures the highest quality musical scores produced on all budgets.
In 2017, he made the leap from Chicago to Los Angeles. He began his scoring journey as an assistant, guitarist, additional writer and programmer on the WB's action hero drama series, "Black Lightning" and BET's, "Being Mary Jane" (Gabrielle Union).
In 2018, Matthew built a recording suite (16 Cent Studios) in Burbank, CA. In his first year, he scored 5 feature films including the gritty guitar driven Crime Thriller, "Arkansas", (starring Vince Vaughn, John Malkovich, Liam Hemsworth), the bombastic orchestral Apocalyptic Action-Adventure-Comedic-Sci-Fi melee, "Useless Humans", (Showtime)and the 80s Analog Synth laden score of "The Djinn."
Matthew continues to work out of 16 Cent Studios (Burbank, CA). His ability across multi-genres has become an asset to film productions, at the indie and major studio level alike.
