In today’s TV News Roundup, “Shut Up and Dribble” has a premiere date and stars partner with March for Our Lives for a voting initiative.

Variety has obtained an exclusive sneak peak of this week’s episode of “Empire,” which airs Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 8 p.m. on Fox. In the episode, Jamal (Jussie Smollett) and Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) go to visit Andre (Trai Byers). “Empire” is executive produced by Brett Mahoney, who also serves as showrunner, as well as Lee Daniels and Danny Strong, who created the series, and Brian Grazer, Francie Calfo, Sanaa Hamri, Dennis Hammer, Matt Pyken and Diane Ademu-John.

Own’s Queen Sugar scored eight total nominations for the 49th NAACP Image Awards, leading the TV drama pack.

On the comedy side, HBO’s Insecure also netted eight nods, while creator and star Issa Rae by herself amassed four (including two for writing and one as an Entertainer of the Year contender). Only Mary J. Blige and Jay-Z earned more individual noms, with five each.

Fox’s Empire and ABC’s black-ish each netted six nominations.

The actor, who’s also known as rapper Yazz The Greatest, said, “The best thing that has happened to me was that I bought my mom a house. I had her just go and pick one out . . . I told her, ‘Don’t go crazy yet, but go get something very nice,’ and she did.”
