Maximilian Uriarte is a writer, director, storyboard artist, animator and illustrator. Maximilian was born and raised in Corvallis, Oregon, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps out of Portland in 2006. After multiple deployments and his honorable discharge in 2010, Maximilian moved to California to study animation at the California College of the Arts utilizing the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
In 2010, Maximilian independently created and self-published Terminal Lance, which has since become the world's most popular military comic strip and garnered a massive cult following across the military and veteran space.
Maximilian became a New York Times bestselling author in 2016 with the release of The White Donkey by Little, Brown & Co., a fictionalized memoir graphic novel of his experiences deployed to the Middle East that he wrote and illustrated. The graphic novel went on to win countless awards and critical accolades, and landed on the Marine Corps Commandant's Reading List in 2020. In 2020, Maximilian followed up with a new, 352 page full color graphic novel Battle Born: Lapis Lazuli, while simultaneously working on animated and live action projects such as Mojave and Post: Frag Out as a filmmaker.
Maximilian moved to the Los Angeles area in 2016 with his wife, son, and dog, and works as a filmmaker, artist and author.
