Benjamin Stefanski, best known by his recording alias Raffertie, is a British composer and producer. A classically trained multi-instrumentalist, he studied Classical & Contemporary Music Composition at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating in 2010.
Championed by Mary Anne Hobbes he received initial acclaim for his experimental electronic recordings, released via seminal imprint Planet Mu, signing to Ninja Tune in 2011. His debut artist album 'Sleep Of Reason' (2013) was critically lauded by The Wire, Pitchfork and Drowned In Sound.
Raffertie's original songs have featured in a number of films, television shows and trailers, notably 'Elysium' starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster and the trailer for Netflix series 'Marco Polo'. His electronic dexterity and classic songwriting sensibility have seen him become known for the enigmatic, emotive sound he has developed throughout his work as a composer.
Having recently completed scoring eight-part drama series 'Alex Rider' directed by Andreas Prochaska (Das Boot), the final episode of Michaela Coel's critically acclaimed 'I May Destroy You', ITV/Amazon drama 'Strangers', BBC 'Top Gear' and virtual reality game 'Arca's Path' (Dream Reality Interactive/Rebellion), Raffertie's early ventures into the world of composition included EA Sports 'SSX' and BBC 'Panorama'. He has composed original music for advertisements including Daniel Wolfe's 'Colourless Future', Nissan 'Embrace The Myth' and Channel 4's award winning 'Born Risky' campaign and has scored editorial and fashion films for brands including Vogue, Nike, Google and Gucci.
