After being separate for the entire second season, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) showdown in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” had to make waves – which is why their sword fight in the finale excited director Charlotte Brändström.

“It’s actually their first encounter of the season, they hadn’t seen each other since Season 1,” she told TheWrap during a new installment of How She Did It, presented by Prime Video. “I first looked at a lot of sword fights in various films to get inspiration.”

Brändström turned to the blueprints in movies like “The Duelists” and various “Zorro” movies to help find said inspiration for shooting her own fight. Next came the duel’s location, and the show worked backwards to get the perfect fit.

Although new episodes are a ways off, Amazon has renewed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season. That means we'll see more of the adventures of Galadriel, Gandalf, Elrond, and everyone else trying to deal with the rise of Sauron during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings story most of us know.

If you're at all familiar with The Lord of the Rings, you know that, on the show, aspiring dark lord Sauron has yet to do something that he is very famous for: forge the One Ring, which he uses to try and take over Middle-earth. Charlie Vickers, who plays Sauron, doesn't come right out and say that will happen in season 3, but it certainly sounds like he's hinting at it.

"The Rings of Power" is operating with an ensemble cast to rule them all. Sure, a few characters, like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Sauron (Charlie Vickers), and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) get extra attention. In reality, though, there are a lot of faces vying for some screen time — and the list of characters keeps expanding with each season.

One of my favorite new additions to season 2 is the moody Irish actor Ciarán Hinds. Hinds is already known for his role in another fantasy franchise, "Game of Thrones," where he played Mance Rayder. A new sci-fi thriller movie about UFOs will star two fantasy TV series veterans. Morfydd Clark, known for her recent portrayal of Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and Ariyon Bakare, who played Carlo Boreal in HBO’s His Dark Materials, are set to star in the film Arctic Skies. The movie will be launched by Independent Entertainment at the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

Per Deadline, the movie is inspired by a well-documented UFO encounter and follows a crew of a cargo plane, who, while flying above the Arctic Circle, are the target of attention that is out-of-this-world. The film will be shot in Birmingham, UK at Steven Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios. The set was also home to Knight’s Peaky Blinders Netflix film.

Arctic Skies is being produced by Elliot and Zander Weaver of Elliander Pictures with Lowkey Films. Independent Entertainment is executive producing the film.

Pic will be shot at Steven Knight’s Digbeth Loc. Studios in Birmingham, UK, which has recently hosted Knight’s Peaky Blinders movie for Netflix.

Writer-directors are Birmingham duo Elliot and Zander Weaver of Elliander Pictures, which is producing with Lowkey Films. Independent Entertainment are aboard as executive producers. Jamie Gamache and Connor O’Hara produce for Lowkey. Colin M. McKeown also produces.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has an important lesson to learn from Sauron and Celebrimbor's arc in season 2. The Rings of Power season 2 centered on Charles Edwards' Celebrimbor, taking some of the attention off Morfydd Clark's Galadriel. As the showrunners confirmed, the show is an origin story for Sauron, and while Sauron was focused on deceiving Galadriel in season 1, he moved onto Celebrimbor in season 2. Sauron's lovers-to-enemies dynamic with Galadriel worked wonders but was unfaithful to the books, whereas his faithful manipulation of Celebrimbor actually didn't quite land to the same extent.

Sauron will have a new victim in Rings of Power season 3 or 4. In season 3, Sauron must hand out the Rings of Men and forge the One Ring, growing ever more powerful. In season 3 or 4, Númenor's new leader, Pharazôn, is set to hear of this power and come to challenge it in his reckless pursuit of colonial expansion.

So, here’s the twist you didn’t see coming: in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 7, “Doomed to Die,” Elrond (Robert Aramayo) kisses Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). Forget all those steamy Sauron-Galadriel moments fans were hoping for. Instead, we got an emotional kiss that was part strategy, part goodbye, and 100% unexpected. Whoa.

Aramayo summed it up best when he confessed, “I think that’s how it begins, but then also it’s a goodbye as well.” The kiss, while it may seem like a quick rescue tactic, packs a punch way beyond the practical. For Elrond, this kiss was more than a strategic move. It was loaded with emotions—he genuinely thought this could be his last moment with Galadriel, and he was saying goodbye to someone who was like family to him. The drama! The feels!

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 makes an Elrond scene from the movies even more tragic. Played by Robert Aramayo, the younger Elrond is one of the most important Rings of Power characters. His relationships with Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Durin IV (Owain Arthrur) have been at the heart of the series. Elrond has done his best to balance his friendship with Durin against the larger issues that the Elves and the Dwarves face.

In season 2, Elrond's friendship with Galadriel is tested by their opposing views on whether the rings of power should be used. By Rings of Power season 2's ending, Elrond's viewpoint on the rings of power changes given the actions of Galadriel and the changes that have occurred across Middle-earth. Despite having a different outlook heading into Rings of Power season 3, Elrond's resistance to the rings makes a scene from the movies sadder.

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power moved its shooting location from New Zealand to England for Season 2, but that wasn’t the only change in production. The series brought in a new production designer for the second season, Kristian Milsted, who has also worked on series such as Willow, Watchmen, and Killing Eve.

Milsted, who was nominated for an Emmy in 2020 for his work on Watchmen, talked with AwardsRadar about working on Season 2 of the Lord of the Rings-inspired series. He said he was able to discuss Season 2 with showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as they were shooting the first season, which helped him know where the story was going as the series progressed.

Australian actor Charlie Vickers, in Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, delivered scene-stealing performances as Halbrand and Annatar, all while disguised as the Dark Lord Sauron. Now, Vickers is opening up to Inverse, confessing he didn’t know who he was going to play in the series when he was auditioning for it.

“I think I did seven auditions, maybe eight, and all the character name is is a pseudonym, all the sides (were) fake scenes,” Vickers told the publication. He added that the process of auditioning for the J.R.R.
