After being separate for the entire second season, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Sauron’s (Charlie Vickers) showdown in “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” had to make waves – which is why their sword fight in the finale excited director Charlotte Brändström.
“It’s actually their first encounter of the season, they hadn’t seen each other since Season 1,” she told TheWrap during a new installment of How She Did It, presented by Prime Video. “I first looked at a lot of sword fights in various films to get inspiration.”
Brändström turned to the blueprints in movies like “The Duelists” and various “Zorro” movies to help find said inspiration for shooting her own fight. Next came the duel’s location, and the show worked backwards to get the perfect fit.
“The set was designed for the sword fight, it didn’t exist before,” she said. “I was talking...

Although new episodes are a ways off, Amazon has renewed The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for a third season. That means we'll see more of the adventures of Galadriel, Gandalf, Elrond, and everyone else trying to deal with the rise of Sauron during the Second Age of Middle-earth, thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings story most of us know.
If you're at all familiar with The Lord of the Rings, you know that, on the show, aspiring dark lord Sauron has yet to do something that he is very famous for: forge the One Ring, which he uses to try and take over Middle-earth. Charlie Vickers, who plays Sauron, doesn't come right out and say that will happen in season 3, but it certainly sounds like he's hinting at it.

In the 2010s, the biggest show on TV was Game of Thrones, HBO's adaptation of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire books. The show was like The Lord of the Rings, because it was a tale of epic conflict in a medieval mileu. Only it wasn't like The Lord of the Rings at all, because the characters spent more time fighting each other than they did otherworldly forces of evil. The cast was way bigger, the story more sprawling, and everyone spent a lot more time naked.
Also there weren't any elves. Anyway, Game of Thrones was a monster hit, and other studios took notice. Netflix was the first to get their competitor out there: in 2019, the same year that Game of Thrones ended, it debuted The Witcher, a high fantasy series based on a series of books by Andrzej Sapkowski. Psychological Thriller Streaming Now (Photo Credit – YouTube)
Saint Maud is a haunting tale that tiptoes the line between divine devotion and delusion, and isn’t your typical horror flick. Instead, it is more like a fever dream soaked in dread.
This British psychological thriller, now streaming on Amazon Prime, has quietly built a cult following, with viewers labeling it everything from “unsettling” to “religiously sick.” And not without reason.
The Haunting Story of Saint Maud
Rose Glass makes a chilling directorial debut, weaving together themes of faith, mental instability, and spiritual obsession with unnerving precision. The story revolves around Maud, a palliative care nurse with a troubled past, played with eerie conviction by Morfydd Clark. Her performance lingers like a ghost after the credits roll.

While Netflix had been a pioneer in the streaming space, coming in with shows like House of Cards, Ozark, Stranger Things, and Orange is the New Black, there was a time when the streaming giant faced tough competition in the arena that it had created. One show, specifically waiting on Prime Video, really gave the platform a run for its money.

Man in The High Castle was based on a novel by the seminal Philip K Dick, which explored an alternate world where Nazis won the Second World War, dividing up the continental United States between themselves and the Japanese. The show had such brilliant storytelling, whether it was music or dialogue, that it practically changed the streaming landscape, forcing all competitors to up their game.

A24 horror movies have garnered a reputation for being some of the best entries in the genre. The independent entertainment company is largely responsible for the “elevated horror” boom. They attract an array of auteur filmmakers with distinct visions and tend to give them a fairly loose leash when it comes to creative control. The end result can be a mixed bag, but more often than not viewers are treated to a memorable horror experience worthy of the crown worn by King Paimon.

"The Rings of Power" is operating with an ensemble cast to rule them all. Sure, a few characters, like Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), Sauron (Charlie Vickers), and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) get extra attention. In reality, though, there are a lot of faces vying for some screen time — and the list of characters keeps expanding with each season.
One of my favorite new additions to season 2 is the moody Irish actor Ciarán Hinds. Hinds is already known for his role in another fantasy franchise, "Game of Thrones," where he played Mance Rayder. One area of the fantasy landscape that he hadn't entered yet, though, was Middle-earth -- that is, until he joined Prime Video's show, donned some elaborate robes, grabbed a fancy staff, and set up shop as a "Dark Wizard" in the series' storyline in the easter region of Rhûn.

If you’re looking for new awards contender movies to watch on streaming or video on demand, your pickings are slim this post-Oscars weekend, but we do have a few suggestions for things to watch. Our list includes a top pick that just became available on subscription streaming, two other new releases on streaming, an older movie that would make for a nice triple feature with the top pick, and a past Oscar nominee recently added to Netflix.
Top pick: Heretic
Hugh Grant’s villain era continues in this twisty A24 horror movie. Sophie Thatcher (a rising scream queen whose movie Companion was one of our picks two weeks ago) and Chloe East play Mormon missionaries who try to carry the word to the wrong man, Mr. Reed. He takes them prisoner and tells them that he has found the one true religion, seemingly offering them the opportunity to escape if they renounce their faith.

Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan are about to get in the ring...of power, that is. The acclaimed British actors are no strangers to fantasy and genre fare, given the former's time on Stranger Things and the latter's time appearing in, well, seemingly everything else, but neither have played in the acclaimed and beloved universe of author J. R. R. Tolkien — until now.

I hope Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan have enough room in their bellies for a second-breakfast because they’re joining the cast of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3. Bower, who plays the Freddy Krueger-like villain Henry Creel/Vecna in Netflix’s Stranger Things, boards the show as a series regular, while Marsan will recur in new episodes of the big-budget fantasy series.
Details about their respective roles are scarce. However, the scoopers at Deadline hear that Bower plays a significant role in upcoming events as a “handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen). He may play a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark), who, after the events of Season 2, continues to grapple with the fact that her previous love, Hallbrand (Charlie Vickers), is Sauron. This is a match made in genre heaven — Jamie Campbell Bower, star of Netflix’s blockbuster supernatural drama Stranger Things, is joining one of biggest fantasy franchises of all time. Bower has been tapped as a series regular for the upcoming third season of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Additionally, Ray Donovan alum Eddie Marsan is set to recur on the new season, which is currently in pre-production.
As usual, details about the role are being kept under wraps but I hear Bower plays Rings of Power’s biggest new cast addition, a character described as a handsome high-born knight (code name Arlen) in casting information that has been circulated around. He could be a new love interest for Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) who spent the second season facing the reality of her Season 1 love interest Halbrand’s (Charlie Vickers) true identity as arch-villain Sauron.

The fantasy romance book series A Court of Thorns and Roses, by author Sarah J. Maas, has sold over 13 million copies since the first book was released in 2015. Four years ago, Hulu, along with Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D. Moore, optioned the book series for a television series adaptation. However, per Deadline, Hulu and 20th Television have axed the project.
A Court of Thorns and Roses consists of five books published from 2015 to 2021 that follow 19-year-old Feyre after she is brought to the faerie lands of Pyrthian. A sixth book in the series is reportedly still in the works.

The long, unexpected journey of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is set to receive another chapter. The streaming series first debuted in 2022 to somewhat divisive reactions. However, for my money, "The Rings of Power" Season 2 used a darker, bolder, and more complex story to show us what the series was truly capable of. The show's strong viewership numbers and consistent quality has finally led to what was all but inevitable: an official renewal for Season 3. And it comes with a fascinating wrinkle, too.
The Hollywood Reporter dropped the news, with Prime Video confirming that "The Rings of Power" Season 3 will begin filming in just a few months in the UK. But that's not even the biggest development for fans of author J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy adventures set in Middle-earth. The report also reveals that, after the first two seasons basically compressed centuries of source material into...

Let this be the hour when we draw swords together. Fell deeds awake. Now for wrath, now for ruin, and... now for a long-awaited but very much expected update on Amazon's billion-dollar high fantasy epic The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power. Yes, following the breathless Season 2 finale of Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne's take on the marginalia of J.R.R. Tolkien's legendarium, today Prime Video has officially confirmed that Season 3 of The Rings Of Power is in the works and well on its way.
According to THR's reporting, the third season of the streamer's answer to Game Of Thrones is already in pre-production as we write, with filming due to get underway at the show's new Shepperton Studios UK base this spring. Big names, high concepts, and crowd-pleasing thrills are the order of the day at this year’s European Film Market, where commercial fare is dominating over the usual arthouse prestige plays, reflecting an industry uncertain of the future of the theatrical business in the post-covid world. Action, horror, and comedy are leading the charge, with star-driven projects like Guy Ritchie’s Wife & Dog (Benedict Cumberbatch, Rosamund Pike), Mary Bronstein’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You (Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien, A$AP Rocky), and Ernest Dickerson’s untitled hitman thriller (Samuel L. Jackson, Daveed Diggs) among the titles generating early buzz.
Genre filmmakers are also stepping up in a big way, with The Raid’s Iko Uwais launching a new production/sales outfit in Berlin for his brand of martial-arts madness, and horror entries like Bad Boy — starring Ke Huy Quan and Lili Reinhart — and the body-horror thriller...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerpurported to tell the story of the Second Age. With Sauron returning to forge the Rings and to wreak havoc on Middle-earth, the show features an expansive cast, stunning scenery, and ample Tolkien references. All the while, it also hoped to pay homage to Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movies.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to honor two major stories, while telling a third. All the while, the creators needed to balance expectations and introduce new elements to keep viewers on their toes. As much as it attempted to remain faithful, there are major points where the show failed to honor The Silmarillion.

They knew it was a bad call, but they went with it anyway. The Rings of Power star found themselves smack in the middle of a scene that felt like a giant middle finger to Tolkien’s legacy. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has an important lesson to learn from Sauron and Celebrimbor's arc in season 2. The Rings of Power season 2 centered on Charles Edwards' Celebrimbor, taking some of the attention off Morfydd Clark's Galadriel. As the showrunners confirmed, the show is an origin story for Sauron, and while Sauron was focused on deceiving Galadriel in season 1, he moved onto Celebrimbor in season 2. Sauron's lovers-to-enemies dynamic with Galadriel worked wonders but was unfaithful to the books, whereas his faithful manipulation of Celebrimbor actually didn't quite land to the same extent.
Sauron will have a new victim in Rings of Power season 3 or 4. In season 3, Sauron must hand out the Rings of Men and forge the One Ring, growing ever more powerful. In season 3 or 4, Númenor's new leader, Pharazôn, is set to hear of this power and come to challenge it in his reckless pursuit of colonial expansion.

2020's Dracula miniseries is a totally fresh reimagining of Bram Stoker's original novel, making several huge changes from the book and giving the narrative an entirely different subtext. The project was fairly polarizing upon its release, but in the years since, audiences have begun to appreciate this series for its bold vision and clear storytelling voice. While other Dracula-inspired projects like Nosferatu have been huge box office hits thanks to their loyalty to the original text, 2020's Dracula is arguably a riskier and braver adaptation that isn't afraid to take some liberties with the story.
The Dracula miniseries comes from Doctor Who writers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, who bring their own witty creativity to this original script. The pair made a name for themselves on the BBC's iconic sci-fi drama, with Moffat serving as head writer between 2010 and 2017. This adaptation of Dracula stars John Heffernan as Jonathan Harker,...

The Lord of the Rings genius Peter Jackson wasn’t exactly itching to join the The Rings of Power bandwagon. You’d think he’d be all in for another Middle-earth adventure, right? Nah, not really. Jackson had one very specific condition before he’d even consider getting involved.

Henry Cavill is practically living in Middle-earth. His home screams Shire vibes, and now fans can’t help but picture him stepping into The Rings of Power as a legendary elf hero. Elrond and Galadriel’s Goodbye Kiss! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
So, here’s the twist you didn’t see coming: in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2, Episode 7, “Doomed to Die,” Elrond (Robert Aramayo) kisses Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). Forget all those steamy Sauron-Galadriel moments fans were hoping for. Instead, we got an emotional kiss that was part strategy, part goodbye, and 100% unexpected. Whoa.
Aramayo summed it up best when he confessed, “I think that’s how it begins, but then also it’s a goodbye as well.” The kiss, while it may seem like a quick rescue tactic, packs a punch way beyond the practical. For Elrond, this kiss was more than a strategic move. It was loaded with emotions—he genuinely thought this could be his last moment with Galadriel, and he was saying goodbye to someone who was like family to him. The drama! The feels!

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 makes an Elrond scene from the movies even more tragic. Played by Robert Aramayo, the younger Elrond is one of the most important Rings of Power characters. His relationships with Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Durin IV (Owain Arthrur) have been at the heart of the series. Elrond has done his best to balance his friendship with Durin against the larger issues that the Elves and the Dwarves face.
In season 2, Elrond's friendship with Galadriel is tested by their opposing views on whether the rings of power should be used. By Rings of Power season 2's ending, Elrond's viewpoint on the rings of power changes given the actions of Galadriel and the changes that have occurred across Middle-earth. Despite having a different outlook heading into Rings of Power season 3, Elrond's resistance to the rings makes a scene from the movies sadder.

Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power moved its shooting location from New Zealand to England for Season 2, but that wasn’t the only change in production. The series brought in a new production designer for the second season, Kristian Milsted, who has also worked on series such as Willow, Watchmen, and Killing Eve.
Milsted, who was nominated for an Emmy in 2020 for his work on Watchmen, talked with AwardsRadar about working on Season 2 of the Lord of the Rings-inspired series. He said he was able to discuss Season 2 with showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay as they were shooting the first season, which helped him know where the story was going as the series progressed.

It’s hard to believe, but it has been over 12 years since the release of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Upon its release, it completely shook up the RPG genre and presented players with a gameplay that still holds up in today’s day and age.

Skyrim is truly Bethesda and Todd Howard’s magnum opus. However, the game would’ve never been able to achieve the heights it did if EA hadn’t canceled an open-world Lord of the Rings game that had all the potential to lead the RPG genre and obliterate its competitors.

A few decades ago, if someone had told us that TV would one day stand toe-to-toe with cinema in terms of production value, we would have laughed it off like a bad punchline. But here we are—TV has evolved from a simple filler between dinner and sleep to a juggernaut of cinematic grandeur.
Today’s shows are no less than cinematic marvels, with budgets so vast, they could easily fund a few indie films. From the costumes that look like they were sewn by magic to soundtracks that stir the soul, each frame is a work of art.

Australian actor Charlie Vickers, in Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, delivered scene-stealing performances as Halbrand and Annatar, all while disguised as the Dark Lord Sauron. Now, Vickers is opening up to Inverse, confessing he didn’t know who he was going to play in the series when he was auditioning for it.
“I think I did seven auditions, maybe eight, and all the character name is is a pseudonym, all the sides (were) fake scenes,” Vickers told the publication. He added that the process of auditioning for the J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired prequel series lasted nearly seven months, and he had to do screen tests with Galadriel actress Morfydd Clark, who also was unaware of the part she’d be playing.
