Mirko Rizzello
- Composer
German award-winning film composer Mirko Rizzello was born in 1976 in Berlin, where he still lives with his wife and two daughters. His parents Romeo and Jozica Rizzello migrated from Italy and Slovenia to West-Germany in 1974.
Young Mirko attended primary and secondary schools in Berlin from 1982 to 1992. He then studied Medical Technical Assistance from 1992 to 1995. Today he works at Charité - Humboldt-University Berlin's Clinic.
The music career of Mr. Rizzello started as drummer in several band formations in 1992. Picture Palace Music belonged to those bands from 2012 to 2014. One of his band members Thorsten Quaeschning is the main keyboarder and current band leader of the electronic German group Tangerine Dream.
The strongest influence on Mr. Rizzello's musical genesis were the following bands from punk and grunge over synth-pop to progressive rock: The Clash, Pearl Jam, Depeche Mode, The Mission, and The Smiths.
First feelings for film scores in Mr. Rizzello were inspired by works of Hans Zimmer such as Rain Man (1988) (1988), Gladiator (2000) (2000), and The Dark Knight (2008) (2008). Soundtracks by James Horner, Howard Shore, and Danny Elfman touched Mirko Rizzello so much, that he decided to become a film composer in 2009.
Mr. Rizzello's passion for arranging, recording, and composing electronic and orchestral music for films culminated in the release of his debut album "Heroical" in 2010. In the same year he met award-winning film director Dave Lojek or Apeiron Films to create a soundtrack for a zombie trailer. The partnership between these artists still continues after a decade and led to very successful collaborations on film festival hits such as Psychic Sue (2013) (2013), Das sprichwörtliche Glück (2016) (2016), and I Came from the Future (2018) (2018), earning both of them many awards, including best score.
Most of Mirko Rizzello's compositions are made with sequencing software on elaborate computer setups and hardware synthesizers in his studio setting. The genres of these film scores and production music range from experimental ambient electronic over hybrid forms to full orchestral, exemplified in albums such as "Epic Hybridique" (2017), "Sophisticated Cinematique" (2014), and concept album "Tronic" (2012). Autodidact Rizzello keeps perfecting his styles and approaches, adding new layers of instruments and techniques with the progression of collaborations.
Fans of Mr. Rizzello's music mention the epic changeability and emotional grandeur in his popular scores. Among the film genres Mr. Rizzello's music enriches are comedy, science fiction, parody, action, adventure, drama and romance.
Other compositions by Mr. Rizzello for directors such as Ingrid Hübscher, Sören Helbing, Adrián Tejero, and Stefanie Spachmann also entertained festival cinema audiences around the globe.
The series pilot Assana (2019) (2019) by Chris Cloud was the first overseas collaboration of Mr. Rizzello for a fantasy soundtrack.
The creation of the feature film score for horror mystery thriller C.L.E.A.N. (2020) (2020) produced by Vjekoslav Katusin and directed by Aurelio Toni Agliata, starring Costas Mandylor and Tom Sizemore enabled Mr. Rizzello to explore the darker regions of film music with considerable success in cinemas.
