Hell on Wheels star Colm Meaney, Press’ Paapa Essiedu and Harry Potter’s David Bradley are the latest names to be added to Sky and Cinemax drama Gangs of London.

The trio will join Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole and Humans’ Sope Dirisu in the crime thriller, which was created by Gareth Evans.

Rounding out the cast are Adrian Bower (The Last Kingdom), Ray Panthaki (Colette), Orli Shuka (War Machine), Darren Evans (Requiem), Garmon Rhys (Hidden), Serena Kennedy (Remember Me), Aksel Üstün (Les Revenants), Kwong Loke (The Feed) and Constantine Gregory (Wonder Woman 1984).

London’s gangs just got a host of new members. Colm Meaney, Paapa Essiedu and David Bradley are among the new names joining upcoming Sky and Cinemax drama “Gangs of London.”

Pulse Films is producing the drama in association with Sister Pictures. “The Raid” helmer Gareth Evans wrote the series and is directing. Shooting is underway in the English capital.

Meaney (“Star Trek: Deep Space Nine”), Bafta Breakthrough Brit Essiedu (“The Miniaturist”), and Bradley (“After Life”) join the previously announced Joe Cole and Sope Dirisu in the show.

The series will follow the criminal power struggles on London’s streets. When the head of one criminal organisation is assassinated, a power vacuum threatens the fragile peace between the intricate web of different gangs.

Gareth Evans’ Gangs of London sets its cast

Last year it was announced that The Raid and Apostle director Gareth Evans is working on a TV series entitled Gangs of London, and now Deadline is reporting that the project has found its two leads in Joe Cole (A Prayer Before Dawn) and Sope Dirisu (Humans).

Created by Evans and his regular cinematographer Matt Flannery, Gangs of London “is set in contemporary London as it is being torn apart by power struggles involving several international gangs [and] begins as the head of one criminal gang is assassinated and the power vacuum threatens the fragile peace between the other underworld organizations.”

In addition to Cole and Dirisu, the series is also set to feature Lucian Msamati (Black Earth Rising), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones), Mark Lewis Jones (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Narges Rashidi (The Girlfriend Experience), Jing Lusi (Crazy Rich Asians), Pippa Bennett-Warner (Harlots), Brian Vernel (Dunkirk), Orli Shuka (War Machine

Joe Cole Recruited to Sky and Cinemax’s ‘Gangs of London’
Fresh from winning best actor for his performance in “A Prayer Before Dawn” at the BIFAs, Joe Cole has joined Pulse Films’ upcoming drama “Gangs of London.” Sope Dirisu (“The Huntsman: Winter’s War”) has also signed up to the series, which will be on Sky in the U.K. and Cinemax in the U.S.

Production is underway on the show, which hails from writer-director Gareth Evans (“The Raid”) and is being produced by Pulse Films in association with Jane Featherstone’s Sister Pictures. The thriller follows the power struggle that ensues when a criminal kingpin is assassinated, creating a power vacuum, and international gangs battle for control of London’s underworld.

Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole and Humans’ Sope Dirisu are to star in Sky and Cinemax drama Gangs of London.

The pair will lead the line in the Pulse Films-produced drama, which was first revealed by Deadline in November 2017, and was created by Gareth Evans.

The drama, which will launch in 2019, is set in contemporary London as it is being torn apart by power struggles involving several international gangs. The series begins as the head of one criminal gang is assassinated and the power vacuum threatens the fragile peace between the other underworld organizations.

It comes from an original idea by The Raid director Evans and Matt Flannery, who has worked alongside Evans as cinematographer on a number of his films.

Gareth Evans, the action visionary behind The Raid, co-created TV series Gangs of London for HBO’s Cinemax and Sky Atlantic.

The cult cinema myth of Gareth Evans’s innovative 2011 Indonesian action flick, The Raid: Redemption, is still resonating several years after its release. However, Evans, who tackled the upcoming Netflix horror film, Apostle, and remains in the mix to direct DC's (up-in-the-air) Deathstroke movie, is heeding the call of peak television as the co-creator – with Matt Flannery – of an action series called Gangs of London.

Gangs of London will have Evans in the director's chair for the majority of the 10-part series and use his Raid repertoire to handle complex choreographed fight scenes across the season. However, he'll share the duty of director with Corin Hardy, who will handle three episodes, and French helmer Xavier Gens will shoot two episodes. The series is a co-production

Gerard Johnson's Hyena gets release date
Metrodome sets UK release date for crime drama.

Gerard Johnson’s Hyena will be released in UK cinemas from March 6 by Metrodome Distribution.

The film, which opened the Edinburgh International Film Festival in June and won best film at Sitges, centres on a corrupt police officer who comes up against an influx of Albanian gangsters that threaten to change London’s criminal landscape.

The film reunites writer-director Johnson with actor Peter Ferdinando, who is joined by Stephen Graham, Neil Maskell, MyAnna Buring, Elisa Lasowski, Tony Pitts, Richard Dormer, Gordon Brown and newcomers Orli Shuka and Gjevat Kelmendi.

Produced by Stephen Woolley, Elizabeth Karlsen and Jo Laurie, Hyena’s music is written and produced by Matt Johnson from 80s band The The. The film is financed by Film4, BFI, Ingenious and Lipsync.
