Deadline confirms that the streaming platform is shelving the dramedy series after just two seasons.

A Netflix spokesperson has said they are proud of the show, which stars Sarah Shahi, Margaret Odette, Mike Vogel and Adam Demos, and that the second season wrapped up the series in a happy and natural conclusion.

The series, created by Stacy Rukeyser, depicts the story of a tangled love triangle between a woman, her husband, and her past. The show was inspired by the book 44 Chapters About 4 Men by Bb Easto and sought to take a compelling look at female desires.

Netflix has canceled Sex/Life after two seasons. The news isn’t all that surprising as series star Sarah Shahi recently signed on to star in ABC’s legal drama Judgement.

Inspired by B.B. Easton’s 44 Chapters About 4 Men, Sex/Life starred Sarah Shahi as Billie Connelly who, “exhausted from taking care of her two kids and feeling nostalgic for the free-spirited life she lived in New York with her best friend Sasha (Margaret Odette) before marrying loving and reliable Cooper (Mike Vogel), starts journaling and fantasizing about her exploits with an ex (Adam Demos).” While the first season of Sex/Life had 232.70 million hours of viewing time over a nearly four-week period, the second season only had 126.8 million hours in a similar time frame. That’s a drop of about 45%, so you can understand why Netflix canceled Sex/Life.

Netflix has canceled its drama series Sex/Life after two seasons.

The decision comes five weeks after the show’s second season (consisting of six episodes, down from eight in season one) debuted — and three weeks after star Sarah Shahi signed on to star in Judgement, a legal drama in contention for next season at ABC.

Season two brought an ending of sorts to the story as Shahi’s Billie reunited with her ex, Brad (Adam Demos), and got married on a beach. Showrunner Stacy Rukeyser, however, told The Hollywood Reporter that she didn’t view the last episode as the end of the series.

“The episode was never intended to be a series finale, that’s for sure,” Rukeyser told THR a week after season two premiered. “I know there are always more stories to tell with these characters in the Sex/Life universe, and I hope we get the chance to tell those stories.

Before stay-at-home mom Billie married the loving and reliable Cooper (Mike Vogel) and moved to Connecticut, she was a free-spirited wild child living in New York City with her best friend, Sasha (Margaret Odette). She worked hard and played even harder. Exhausted from taking care of her two young kids and feeling nostalgic for her wild past, Billie starts journaling and fantasizing about her passionate exploits with her ex-boyfriend, Brad (Adam Demos), the one that got away. But the more Billie remembers, the more she wonders how she ended up in her quiet suburban life, questioning everything about it. And then her husband finds her journal.

Sex/Life is expanding its cast on Netflix for its second season.

Craig Bierko, Cleo Anthony, Darius Homayoun, Dylan Bruce, and Wallis Day have all landed recurring roles.

Bierko will play Mick, Anthony will play Kam, Homayoun will play Majid, Bruce will play Spencer, and Day is set to play Gigi.

In true Sex/Life fashion, character details are unavailable, meaning we'll have to wait until more details from the series drops for more clarity.

Additionally, Jonathan Sadowski and Li Jun Li have been confirmed to return in recurring roles.

They join returning series regulars Sarah Shahi (Billie Connelly), Mike Vogel (Cooper Connelly), Adam Demos (Brad Simon), and Margaret Odette (Sasha Snow).

The soapy drama launched in June, 2021, and was watched by 67 million Netflix households in its first four weeks.

Showrunner/Creator/Executive Producer/Writer Stacy Rukeyser (UnREAL) is also set to return.

“Sex/Life is a dream come true," said Rukeyser of the renewal.

Netflix has renewed terribly-reviewed but most-watched drama for a second season.

The streamer broke the news Monday, revealing production will take place once again in Toronto, Canada.

Season 1 of Sex/Life premiered June 25, 2021, and was watched by 67 Million households in its first four weeks.

Sarah Shahi (Billie Connelly), Mike Vogel (Cooper Connelly), Adam Demos (Brad Simon), and Margaret Odette (Sasha Snow) are all set to return for the second seasons.

Showrunner/Creator/Executive Producer/Writer Stacy Rukeyser (UnREAL) is also set to return.

Netflix has renewed Sex/Life for a second season. The streamer also has revealed that the first season of the steamy drama was watched by 67 million households in the first four weeks since its May 25 release. (Netflix’s metric counts households that have watched two or more minutes of a program.)

The 67 million is the third largest audience for an original Netflix series only behind the first seasons of Bridgerton and The Witcher though the streamer’s subscriber base is ever expanding, which is boosting viewership figures for newer shows.

Set to return for Season 2 are Sex/Life‘s series regulars, Sarah Shahi, Mike Vogel, Adam Demos and Margaret Odette. Production will take place once again in Toronto.

Victoria Justice and Adam Demos are teaming up for a new Netflix romcom, set to film on location in Queensland, Australia.

In the film, Justice stars as a hard-driving L.A. wine-company exec who, in order to land a major client, travels to an Australian sheep station where she ends up working as a ranch hand and sparking with a rugged local.

The as-yet-untitled movie will be directed by Stuart McDonald, from a script by Elizabeth Hackett and Hilary Galanoy, who previously worked with Demos on 2019’s “Falling Inn Love,” which also starred Christina Milian.

The project is produced by Robyn Snyder, Deborah Evans, Deborah Glover and Tracey Vieira. Tracey Robertson, Nathan Mayfield, Hackett, Galanoy and Fernando Szew serve as executive producers.

Both Justice and Demos have a history with the streamer, as Justice is next set to star in the Netflix movie “Afterlife of the Party” and Demos starred in the steamy drama “Sex/Life.

“Sex/Life,” Netflix’s new series about marital dissatisfaction and monogamy, sets out to ask several big questions. By the end, it’s only proved one thing to the viewer’s satisfaction: That it takes hard work to pull off satisfying trash.

Inspired by the book “44 Chapters About 4 Men” by Bb Easton and created by Stacy Rukeyser, “Sex/Life” is at least at first organized around the diary kept by Billie Connelly (Sarah Shahi). Billie, a suburban wife and mom with an academic background in psychology, is happy enough with her life and with her husband (Mike Vogel). But she can’t help turning over in her mind experiences with a former lover (Adam Demos), a fixture from her past who intrudes upon her present; she writes all about him in her diary. When her husband finds those writings, Billie embarks upon a journey of self-rediscovery that threatens the stability of her life and family.

Female sexuality and desire take center stage in the new drama Sex/Life, premiering this Friday on Netflix.

Sarah Shahi (Person of Interest, Chicago Fire) stars as Billie, a wife and mother who, after growing tired of her dull suburban life, begins journaling and fantasizing about her past sexual exploits with hunky ex-boyfriend Brad (Adam Demos). Her whole life is blown up when her husband Cooper (Mike Vogel) reads those steamy entries, which then kickstarts a complicated love triangle after her ex finds his way back into her life.

Exclusive: Sex/Life is resuming after production on the Netflix dramedy got back up and running in Toronto. Deadline understands filming kicked off Monday on the eight-part series, which comes from UnReal’s Stacy Rukeyser, just outside of the Canadian city at Dixie Studios.

It marks one of the first Netflix scripted series to resume filming in North America following the Covid-19 production shutdown. The streamer has seen a handful of its internationally produced scripted series, such as the UK-based The Witcher, return to production earlier this month.

The Sex/Life shoot is expected to run through mid-December. It was originally intended to have been shot between March and June.
