“The world of love wants no monsters in it.”
Cannibals aren’t supposed to be romantic. When we think about those who consume human flesh, it’s usually wild-eyed psychopaths covered in gore or deranged butchers with bloodspattered aprons who come to mind. Cannibalism is known as the last taboo and we’ve been trained to see anyone who partakes as a monster. But Luca Guadagnino’s powerful film Bones and All confronts this age-old stereotype by asking us to recognize the humanity in a pair of lovesick cannibals and in turn find compassion for ourselves.
Maren (Taylor Russell) is an 18-year-old eater trying to find her way in a cruel world. Abandoned by her father, she’s following vague clues to the whereabouts of her long-lost mother when she meets a fellow eater named Lee (Timothée Chalamet) on the road. The two hit it off right away and begin...

Cruz Abelita, best known for playing Justin across three seasons on Lionsgate TV’s Step Up: High Water, has signed with Cesd for representation.
The dance drama was a small screen reboot of the popular Lionsgate film franchise. Step Up: High Watch, which followed the students and faculty of High Water, Atlanta’s most cutthroat performing arts school, ran for one season on Starz, before the next two seasons streamed on YouTube’s subscription service.
The series also starred Ne-Yo, Faizon Love, Eric Graise, Terayle Hill, Enrique Murciano and Tricia Helfer. The Lionsgate TV production, after consulting with the family of the late Naya Rivera, cast Christina Milian to replace Rivera in the scripted series after the Glee star died in a tragic accident after going boating with her young son.

Frank Ocean, that most elusive musical artist, has a new project: he's directing a film. According to Variety, the movie has already begun shooting in Mexico City, and David Jonsson is the lead. Jonsson made waves in HBO's Industry and the charming British rom-com Rye Lane; he was most recently seen in Alien: Romulus.

If the four-year gap between Frank Ocean’s debut studio album Channel Orange and his follow-ups Endless and Blonde felt long, it’s now been over double the wait to see if another album will ever materialize from the wunderkind artist. We now have a major update on Ocean’s creative output, but rather than a new album in the works, he’s started shooting his directorial debut.
Variety reports David Jonsson has landed the lead role of Ocean’s directorial debut, which Ocean also wrote and is now shooting in Mexico City. While no plot details have arrived, a bit more digging reveals the current title is Philly and shooting actually began in mid-December. As seen below, Ocean was also spotted in Mexico City this past summer shooting footage. Earlier rumors suggested A24 and Taylor Russell were involved in the project, but that has yet to be confirmed.

Timothée Chalamet and Kylie Jenner’s relationship took the world by storm, and while many fans surprisingly never saw this coming, the couple seemed very in love with each other. Perhaps it’s because the actor has had several potential lovers in the past with whom he shared effortless chemistry, whether they were on screen or not.

Not many know about this 2022 romantic horror film from renowned Italian director Luca Guadagnino, but Chalamet starred alongside Taylor Russell as young cannibals in Bones and All. The pair had previously displayed affectionate friendship on social media that many speculated they were an item.
Fans believed Timothée Chalamet was so ‘down bad’ for Taylor Russell

Loewe‘s latest campaign features rising stars Drew Starkey and Taylor Russell!
The fashion brand’s Spring Summer 2025 campaign was shot by David Sims and it “explores the relationship between body and landscape, gesture and nature.”
Also starring in the campaign is Loewe global ambassador Wang Yibo, who is a Chinese actor best known for his work in the film Hidden Blade.
The brand notes that the images show them “caught in different situations as they dialogue with the natural elements. The conversation that ensues is one of poses, textures, and atmosphere; the air is just as perceivable and tactile. Russell leans on a tree, barefoot, the grain of her leather coat or the sequins of her dress as evident as the bark and the foliage. Starkey sits on leaves, in a metal chain top that coldly glistens against the warmth of the forest. Wang Yibo explores the premises, the...

Amazon Prime Video always has a wide collection of movies available for subscribers and the titles available for January 2025 stand out more than the rest. Backed by the massive Amazon company, Prime Video is a massive streaming platform with an extensive library of movies. Looking into January 2025, there is a great selection of movies to choose from, including some of the biggest theatrical movies of the past year, like Challengers and A Quiet Place: Day One. There are also some recent acclaimed movies that audiences might have missed, like The Bikeriders and My Old Ass that Prime Video users can now watch at home. While it is an exciting year ahead...

While 2024 hasn’t been the strongest of years for fashion — the continuing musical chairs of creative director positions has left some crucial seats empty for months on end — Hollywood’s showing has remained defiant, with houses like Louis Vuitton adding chic thespian ambassadors seemingly daily, Schiaparelli and Alaia bringing a European aesthetic to the boulevard, and Loewe ad campaigns showcasing an eclectic array of superb acting talent, making it the label everyone aspires to wear.

Escape Room 2: Tournament of Champions ends with a fairly clever twist, but unfortunately, said twist presents a major franchise problem going forward. The first Escape Room became a sleeper hit in 2019, overcoming mediocre reviews by critics to become a hit with audiences, earning $155 million on a $9 million budget. After several Covid-19-related delays, Escape Room 2 finally hit theaters, and while the sequel might not have been the financial powerhouse the first movie was, its makers clearly intend to bring the world an Escape Room 3 based on the Escape Room 2 ending.
After another movie full of Zoey (Taylor Russell) and Ben (Logan Miller) staying alive despite trap after trap constructed by the Minos company, the Escape Room 2 ending twist reveals that everything in the sequel up to that point had been done to convince Zoey that Minos had been caught, and get her and Ben into the...

Editor’s Note: This review was originally posted during the 2024 Venice Film Festival. A24 opens “Queer” in select theaters on November 27.
As an adaptation of “Junkie” author William S. Burroughs’ second novel, “Queer” is about chemical addictions, yes. But it’s even more about being so addicted to a person that, no matter how much you turn yourself inside out trying to get them to love you — charming them with your literary voice, lathering yourself into a stupor on drugs, or even going to the far reaches of a jungle — they will never love you the way you want them to, and even telepathy couldn’t help explain to you why.
Luca Guadagnino’s profound and kaleidoscopic new film begins in a post-World War II Mexico City of the mind and ends in the Ecuadorian rainforest on an ayahuasca trip that’s part Apichatpong Weerasethakul, part “2001: A Space Odyssey,...

Luca Guadagnino is a treasured specimen in the current landscape of arthouse cinema. He is one of the increasingly rare filmmakers capable of distilling the very essence of unconsummated desire into a palpable tension before bodies have even touched. Even rarer, though—and arguably more valuable—is the auteur’s penchant for energetic expression behind the camera that complements, rather than superseding, the subtleties of his chosen material. Uncommon is the Guadagnino film in which he’s actually taken part in shaping the screenplay, and yet his fingerprints lie on every single one of his projects, for better or worse.
At a moment when Italian cinema has relinquished its dominant grip on the art cinema scene, Guadagnino remains a bastion of his nation’s great storytellers. He wholeheartedly embraces the transnational realities of Western cinema today rather than pretending they don’t exist. From Milan to Maryland, Guadagnino’s footprint...

Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey in a heartbreaking installment in the “Challengers” director’s filmography. With Oscar nomination talks happening for Craig and a career-making turn from Starkey, another star enters the frame, and in his acting debut: Omar Apollo.
The Grammy-nominated pop star appears briefly alongside Craig’s character, Lee, in one of the film’s buzziest scenes, showcasing the lengths Lee will go to for desire and Apollo in a role that’s hopefully not his last — and that portends bigger ones to come. In the scene, after exchanging longing looks, a drunken Lee picks up Apollo’s character at a bar and takes him back to a seedy love motel, where they have empty sex that leaves the alcoholic Lee once again bereft.
Though Apollo has taken some acting classes, he wasn’t really “putting energy towards it,” as he told IndieWire.

“This really is my first everything,” admits Arthur Conti. “Everything is so new to me.”
The young British actor isn’t exaggerating. When we meet at Soho House in London, he’s sporting the sort of wide-eyed expression of someone trying to come to terms with a couple of life-changing weeks that might be difficult to put into words.
For starters, Conti recently got back from the Venice Film Festival opening night world premiere of “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” alongside director Tim Burton and fellow castmembers Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Jenna Ortega, Monica Bellucci and Willem Dafoe.
“And also Sigourney Weaver’s there, and Isabelle Huppert and Taylor Russell and all these people watching me on a very big screen… and then there’s all this clapping … it’s hard to believe,” he says.
The disbelief is understandable. Because not only did Venice mark Conti’s “first ever film festival,...

The Taylor Russell movies and TV shows show how she has exploded recently to become one of Hollywood's top go-to young stars. Russell is a Canadian actress who began her entertainment career as a ballet dancer and later as a painter. She moved on to try her hand at music and finally became an actor. Her first role came in 2012, when she was 18, for The CW medical drama Emily Owens, M.D. After a Lifetime television film and one-shot TV appearances, she finally broke out in 2018.
In 2018, Russell picked up the finest leading role of her career by playing Judy Robinson in the Netflix reboot of Lost in Space. That was her big break, but she set her sights next on movies and picked up her first lead role there with the 2019 horror movie Escape Room, which was a box-office success and showed that Russell could lead the way in a successful movie.

While last year’s strikes created a somewhat subdued energy on the Lido with very few talent able to be present, this year’s 2024 Venice Film Festival proved to hot and steamy. And we’re not just talking about the excessive heat movie stars and fan alike were subjected to. Films like Halina Reijn’s erotic thriller “Babygirl” and Luca Guadagnino’s adaptation of William S. Burrough’s short novel “Queer” aroused audience interest with career-best performances from Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig and highly revealing sexual interplay. However it was Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door” that took home the coveted Golden Lion, marking the first time the filmmaker has won a top prize at any major festival throughout his career.

Taylor Russell broke down while presenting Ellen Burstyn with the Liberatum Pioneer Award in Venice.
“Everyone in this room knows how incredible you are. I’ve been so affected by your life and your characters, and no, it’s not part of my speech,” she said on Thursday, tearing up.
The “Bones and All” actor starred alongside Burstyn in Niclas Larsson’s “Mother, Couch.”
“The most exciting part was knowing I would have the opportunity to work with you,” said Russell, raving about “every piece” of Burstyn’s “specialness.”
“I think about your spirituality and the way you’ve connected your heart, your truth and your soul to your work. And that makes me think: ‘I can attempt to do that too,’” she said.
“This is not the woman who takes the easy route. She has never stopped searching. Ellen, by sharing the gift of your work and life with us all,...

On Tuesday night at the Venice Film Festival, just as Luca Guadagnino’s “Queer” was beginning to roll its closing credits and the Sala Grande was still dark and applause had only begun started, star Daniel Craig turned in his seat to give director Luca Guadagnino a tight hug. The gesture would foreshadow what was to come mere minutes later, when the above-the-line talent made sure to have just about every creative who worked on the film who was present at its Venice premiere take a trip down the theater stairs — and take in the rapturous cheers from the audience.
Though it was not a standing ovation that broke records — mostly because by the eighth minute past the credits, even costume designer Jonathan Anderson got his own time in the spotlight — it was one of the more exuberant receptions for a film so far at the festival. Italian teenagers seeking autographs started a “Luca,...

Daniel Craig delivers a career-best performance in Luca Guadagnino’s romantic drama “Queer,” playing a gay American expat in 1950s Mexico City. The drama, with its explicit love scenes, swept up a packed theater at its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Tuesday night, earning a 9-minute standing ovation.
When the applause began, Craig looked flushed and misty-eyed as he hugged Guadagnino. The crowd chanted “Luca! Luca! Luca!” while the ovation continued, with each actor coming down the Sala Grande steps from where they sat in the balcony to bow individually. During his turn, Craig blew kisses to the crowd as his wife, Rachel Weisz, smiled proudly.
When Craig and Starkey at last embraced, Guadagnino — and the rest of the audience — erupted in cheers as the two gripped each other in celebration. Pedro Almodóvar, whose new film “The Room Next Door” received the longest standing ovation of the fest so far with 17 minutes,...

Daniel Craig cruised to Italy and is now on land at the Venice Film Festival for the Queer world premiere.
Ahead of the Luca Guadagnino film’s festival debut — taking place at Palazzo del Cinema’s Sala Grande in the early evening on Tuesday — Queer was toasted at a pre-premiere celebration courtesy of Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and W Magazine’s editor-in-chief Sara Moonves. Anderson served as costume designer for the A24 release, marking his second straight collaboration with Guadagnino after Challengers. Also keeping it in the family, Craig stars in Loewe’s new campaign.
Held at Il Porticciolo, the restaurant inside Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel, Venice, the intimate affair drew a shortlist of actors from Queer, fashion insiders from Loewe and festival stars. Technically, Day Four at the Venice Film Festival started at midnight for me, walking out of the after party for “Babygirl” still abuzz, trying and failing to slyly make it onto the water taxi headed to star Harris Dickinson’s after after party under the noses of A24 employees. The preceding event was one of the few gatherings happening during the festival to invite over some press to rub elbows with lead Nicole Kidman, director Halina Reijn, and company, as well as director Christos Nikou (“Fingernails”) and actress Taylor Russell (“Bones and All”) who are each serving on a different jury at La Biennale this year.
While that all made for an exciting start, the day’s offerings made for a more lowkey Saturday, with earlier screenings of films like “Battleground” and “And Their Children After Them,” both competition titles, only drawing moderate buzz. Even the premiere of Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai’s “Why War,...

The 2024 Venice Film Festival got underway this week and stars hit the red carpet in full force. Jenna Ortega and Winona Ryder showed up for the world premiere of Tim Burton’s long-awaited sequel “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which was warmly received, while Angelina Jolie drew raves for her performance as opera diva Maria Callas in Pablo Larrain’s “Maria.” Nicole Kidman took to Venice for her erotic drama “Babygirl,” and Cate Blanchett flanked Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón for the premiere of the “Roma” director’s Apple TV+ series “Disclaimer.”

The 2024 Venice Film Festival has officially commenced.
Hard to say whether the audience loved the opening night film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which scored laughs here and there, and many a gasp or two at the inventive effects that pull the film even more into body horror territory. But its standing ovation at the end was cut short by the venue flashing the lights to signal that the actors needed to leave.
While Jenna Ortega, the primary new addition to the world of “Beetlejuice” had been the draw who has lined hundreds of Italian teenagers along the Lido, inside the theater, it was national icon Monica Bellucci who got the biggest applause, and she also happened to be who director Tim Burton had on his arm entering the theater. They’ve been dating since last year.

Among historic piazzas and winding canals, the 81st Venice Film Festival kicks off tonight on the Lido di Venezia with the Opening Ceremony and the highly anticipated world premiere of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The red carpet was brimming with talent, marking a stark contrast to last year’s event, which saw a notable absence of celebrities due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.

Summer is winding to a close, though the blistering sun has not yet received the memo. That means the final days of vacationing or summer road trips are in order. Of course, horror has taught us the myriad of ways that the open road can induce abject terror and stress; flat tires are the least of your summer worries in horror.
Films like The Hitcher, Near Dark, and Splinter highlight how car troubles, creepy rest stops, and seedy motels don’t compare to humanity’s worst- human or otherwise- prowling the highways.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to road trip horror movies. These five titles exploit our travel anxieties by pitting their protagonists against vampires, cannibals, psychopaths, and the devil himself over vast stretches of highway.

Alicia Vikander felt like an “imposter” when portraying childbirth onscreen before becoming a parent herself. The actress also revealed she welcomed a second child earlier this year.
“I gave birth four times on screen before I did it myself,” Vikander told Elle. The actress, married to Michael Fassbender, welcomed her first child in 2021. “Your job is to pretend as an actor, but every time I had to give birth, I said to every woman on set, ‘I’m sorry.’ I felt like such an imposter.”
On pregnancy and childbirth, Vikander continued, “All women have such different experiences, and going through it a second time was definitely harder for me. But I think training made it easier. Going through those nine months is like a marathon, so it does help if you’re strong going into it. It’s so physically demanding, and I have so much admiration for any woman who has done it.

Bones and All is a 2022 romantic horror film that explores the complexities of love, identity, and acceptance. The film follows the story of Maren Yearly, a young woman who struggles with her cannibalistic urges and her desire to live a normal life. Throughout the movie, several quotes capture the essence of the characters' emotions and the themes of the story. Here are some of the most impactful quotes from Bones and All: "We Should Feel Something." "Every Time You Drive Off, We're Terrified."
Mixing horror with romance as well as elements of a coming-of-age story, the best Bones and All quotes highlight the strange odyssey of the movie. From acclaimed Italian director Luca Guadagnino, Bones and All tells the story of two cannibalistic young people, Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Timothe Chalamet), as they embark on a road trip across America. However, the connection between these two goes deeper than anyone else could understand,...

Niclas Larsson’s debut feature, Mother, Couch, tells the story of a family brought back together under peculiar circumstances. Veteran actress Ellen Burstyn stars as the mother at the center of it all, who has inexplicably planted herself on a couch in a local furniture store and refuses to budge. Her three estranged children—played by Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, and Lara Flynn Boyle—are called in to try and persuade her to leave.
Under the unusual setup lie deeper themes of fractured family relationships and the intergenerational trauma that can stem from troubled childhoods. Burstyn portrays a mother who never wanted her own children and makes no effort to hide her resentment towards them. This has lasting effects we see play out, such as in McGregor’s character struggling to meet the expectations of both his mother and his own wife and kids.

Bones and All explores a coming-of-age story through the lens of cannibalism, focusing on the romantic connection between Maren and Lee. The movie's unconventional pairing of horror and romance highlights the importance of understanding and accepting those who are different, making it relatable to many. The concept of "bones and all" represents the idea of accepting someone completely, while the Midwest setting emphasizes themes of identity and belonging.
Bones and All is an intense story about cannibals on the surface, but below that, its real meaning is extremely beautiful. The movie follows Maren (Taylor Russell) and Lee (Timothe Chalamet) on a Midwestern road trip as they fall in love while eating to survive. Technically, Bones and All falls under the horror genre, but it is just as much a romance despite its bloody and violent exterior. The romantic connection between Maren and Lee and their journeys of growth and identity...

Gory Hindi action film Kill opens on 827 screens via Roadside Attractions this weekend. It’s the distributor’s first foray into Indian film, which is having another moment after two pics hit the top 10 in North America last week. This is a crowded theatrical market with wide releases piling in and some high-profile indie holdovers. New indie debuts include Mother Couch and The Nature of Love in NYC.
Kill isn’t traditional Bollywood, shorter at an hour forty five minutes and without song and dance numbers in between the action. It debuted at the Toronto Film Festival’s Midnight Madness section, also screening at Fantastic Fest, Beyond Fest and last month at Tribeca.
The R-rated film is being marketed to the reliable Indian diaspora — Roadside marketed the film heavily at the Cricket T20 World Cup held in the U.S. for first time in June, and won by India — but...

Mother, Couch is the type of movie with a jaw-dropping cast that you keep hoping and praying gets better but never turns that corner. And that’s saying something for a film that mercifully ends around the 90-minute mark. The film has worthy performances, particularly from its star, Ewan McGregor, who does what he can to elevate the material.
However, Mother, Couch is more interested in its existential mood than in what will draw the audience in. The story is not engaging or interesting, and, for that matter, entertaining is the story. That’s the one thing about some first-time directors—they forget their audience.

When The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Lara Flynn Boyle for a rare interview in June 2021, she had a new movie to promote, Death in Texas, her first in five years. But Boyle was quick to swat away any chatter of a comeback by saying, politely, “I never went anywhere.”
The veteran star, now 54, has maintained a relatively low profile ever since but she’s back once again with another interview, this time with People, timed to the release of another new movie, Niclas Larsson’s Mother, Couch opposite Ewan McGregor, Rhys Ifans, Taylor Russell and Ellen Burstyn.
The wide-ranging, one-hour conversation with writer Eric Andersson at the Beverly Hills Hotel’s Polo Lounge finds Boyle opening up about ageism in Hollywood, dating actors, and her marriage to Texas real estate developer Donald Ray Thomas. Even though it’s becoming something of a trend, Boyle once again swats away talk...

“I’ve been bleeding my whole life.”
Mother, Couch is a boiling point of a picture. Written and directed by Niclas Larsson (and based on Jerker Virdborg’s novel Mamma i soffa), this is an edgy story about small discourtesies and how they sometimes build into something big, nasty, and violent. Three half-siblings are forced back together when their mother (Ellen Burstyn) refuses to move from a couch in a big, dilapidated furniture store. The daughter (Taylor Russell) of the store owner appears very unworried by the dilemma. She even invites them to stay the night if it’s helpful.
For a debut feature, Larsson is incredibly confident in his cast and aesthetic. This is essentially a one-location narrative with a handful of sojourns to a beach, a house. McGregor leads as David, the unsure, thin-skinned of the three children. As he negotiates with their mother to get off the couch,...

“It is what it is,” says David (Ewan McGregor) in Niclas Larsson’s adaptation of the novel Mamma i soffa. The “what” he’s referring to is the fractured state of his family, in which each of three estranged siblings has a different, yet equally absent, father. “Sometimes it isn’t,” counters Bella (Taylor Russel), a young woman who minds the furniture store where David’s mother (Ellen Burstyn) has planted herself on a couch and refused to budge.
There’s a naïve wisdom to Bella’s response. Family, on the face of it, is a classic case of things being what they are, as nobody chooses their biological parents or siblings. The questions, then, that the film sets out to probe are: When isn’t family what it is, and where?
