There is an ancient ritual known to humankind for more than a hundred years…According to the legend, an ominous entity known as the Queen of Spades can be summoned by drawing a door and staircase on a mirror in the darkness, and by saying her name three times. The Queen of Spades gets her energy from reflective objects; she cuts locks of hair from those asleep, and those that see her go mad or die. Four teenagers decide to call the Queen of Spades as a joke. But when one of them dies of a sudden heart attack, the group realizes they are up against something inexplicable and deadly dangerous.

Grimmfest 2017: The Bride Review: Dir. Svyatoslav Podgayevskiy

The Bride Review: A young bride-to-be finds herself fighting for her life after an introduction to the future in-laws unearths a deadly curse.

Weddings are a major industry these days, fuelled by a combination of commerce and cake. Glossy magazines, gushing emotions and happy, photogenic couples seem to be the norm for this branch of human relationships. However back in ancient times a wedding signified something darker and more ritualistic. This is the nifty concept at the centre of Svyatoslav Podgayevskiy’s horror tale.

Beginning with a prologue that’s part Gullermo del Toro, part Hammer Horror, we learn about the practice of painting eyes onto the closed lids of a corpse and the capturing of the soul in a photograph. From there things get grim, though to writer Podgayevskiy’s credit there’s also a dash of humour.

Wickedly Terrifying Trailer for the Russian Horror Film The Bride

A trailer was recently released for an insane looking Russian horror film called The Bride. The trailer may be fully in Russian, but that doesn't mean the movie won't still scare the living shit out of you. I was genuinely creeped out by some of the visuals in this trailer.

The Bride was written and directed by Svyatoslav Podgayevskiy, a Russian filmmaker who previously helmed a film called Queen of Spades: The Dark Rite. There's currently no plot summary, so I'm not really sure what is going on. One thing I know for sure is how scary it looks!

There’s currently no Us release date for his new film, but I imagine it will pop up somewhere to watch sometime next year.

The Bride: Russian Horror Terrifies In New Trailer

It was just last year that we came across the trailer for impressive looking Russian horror film Queen Of Spades: The Dark Rite. Obviously steeped in American horror tropes this one had production values to stand with teh very best in the world and flagged director Svyatoslav Podgayevskiy as someone to keep an eye on. And we didn't have long to wait for more. Podgayevskiy is back now with The Bride (Невеста) and once again he appears to be delivering horror of the highest standard. Whiel English language information is hard to come by the trailer follows multiple timelines with the spirit of a dead, turn of the century bride wreaking havoc in the modern day. No subtitles on the trailer, unfortunately, but the visuals...
