Netflix Buys Steven Soderbergh’s Drama ‘High Flying Bird’
Netflix has bought global rights to Steven Soderbergh’s basketball drama “High Flying Bird,” starring Andre Holland, Zazie Beetz, and Melvin Gregg.

The streaming giant will release the film next year. It’s Soderbergh’s first collaboration with Netflix.

“We had several strong options for distributing ‘High Flying Bird,’ but to borrow the patois of the movie itself, this deal felt like a slam dunk and the perfect way for me to begin my relationship with Netflix as a director,” Soderbergh said.

Joseph Malloch is producing the film. Executive producers are Ken Meyer and Holland through his Harper Road Films.

The story is set during a pro basketball lockout and centers on a sports agent, played by Holland, who presents a rookie basketball client (Gregg) with an intriguing and controversial proposition. Beetz plays the associate of Holland’s character.

David Harbour on Hopper’s fatherly journey in Stranger Things season 3

One of the big surprises to come out of the second season of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things was the relationship between David Harbour’s Chief Hopper and Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven as Hopper took her in and protected her from the dark forces lurking in Hawkins. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Harbour teased what’s in store for Hopper in the upcoming third season of Stranger Things now that he has legitimately adopted Eleven as his daughter.

There were certainly elements of it that were scary, but I thought there was also a lot of fun, a lot of joy and a lot of silliness, with Steve being a dad and the kids as Ghostbusters. Just taking my story, for example,

New Stranger Things Season 3 Set Pics Feature The Whole Gang

It only took two seasons (and a truckload of Eggos) for Stranger Things to cement its status as a Netflix staple.

Inspired by some of the movie greats of yesterday (and starring the stars of tomorrow), the 80s-set sci-fi series is all about the quaint town of Hawkins, Indiana, which finds itself smack bang in the middle of a government conspiracy after the local energy department begins experimenting with forces beyond their control.

And so, the Upside Down was born. It’s the realm in which dark and evil things fester, and though Eleven and the gang were able to fend off the Shadow Monster and his pack of Demodogs during season 2, Stranger Things season 3 will once again blur the line between our world and the next, resulting in a whole new saga of thrills and supernatural spills.

But it doesn’t all have to be doom and gloom; over on Just Jared,

There's a Good Reason Why Stranger Things Season 3 Isn't Premiering Until Next Summer

It sucks that we're going to have to wait another year before we see the supernatural adventures of Stranger Things continue with Season 3. But, there's a good reason for the delay.

According to Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of Original Content, Stranger Things Season 3 won’t be premiering until next summer because the Duffer Brothers want it to be bigger and better than Season 2. While talking to The Wrap, she said:

"Well, it’s a hand-crafted show. You know, the Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy have worked really hard and they understand the stakes are high. They want to deliver something bigger and better than what they did last year. And so, they really want to take the time to get it right. I think it’s gonna be a fantastic season, it’s gonna be worth the wait."

While talking to Bad TV, director and producer Shawn Levy says that Season 3 will be the "most ambitious" chapter of Stranger Things yet, and it will be influenced by one of the horror genre's greatest maestros... John Carpenter. Here's a rough translation of what Levy said:

"I can not go into the specific but as you saw the second season has become more cinematic, much more based on the characters than the first and this evolution will continue with the third. It will be the season with more action than all."

He went on to tease Carpenter's influence on the series, saying, "there will be very much the ghost of John Carpenter and other '80s horror directors.

47 of Your Favorite Black Netflix Actors and Creators Are Front and Center in This New Ad

  • Popsugar
During the Bet Awards on June 24, Netflix released an incredibly powerful advertisement spotlighting 47 black actors and creators as part of the streaming service's Strong Black Lead initiative. Titled "A Great Day in Hollywood," the spot was directed by Lacey Duke and inspired by the legendary "A Great Day in Harlem" photo, which captured notable jazz musicians in front of a brownstone apartment back in 1958. The Netflix ad is narrated by 16-year-old Stranger Things actor Caleb McLaughlin and features other familiar faces, including Ava DuVernay, Laverne Cox, Lena Waithe, Mike Colter, and Spike Lee, to name a few.

"This is a new day, built from the ground broken by legends - a day for our generation to see untold experiences of our blackness," McLaughlin begins, as the camera pans out to reveal the final frame of all 47 stars standing in front of an apartment building. "We're not a genre because there's
