"Unplanned" Parenthood

Dedicated to every woman who ever had an abortion and regretted it for the rest of her life, "Unplanned" is the new dramatic feature written, directed by Chuck Konzelman and Cary Solomon, based on a memoir by Abby Johnson, a former 'Planned Parenthood' employee, starring Ashley Bratcher, Brooks Ryan, Robia Scott, Jared Lotz and Emma Elle Roberts, now playing:

"...'Abby Johnson' one of the youngest 'Planned Parenthood' clinic directors in the Us, where baby body parts are routinely harvested, is asked to assist in an ultrasound-guided abortion at thirteen weeks gestation.

"After witnessing the gruesome procedure, Johnson becomes an anti-abortion activist and founds a group to assist former Planned Parenthood employees who turned against abortion after similar experiences..."

Anti-Abortion Pic ‘Unplanned’ Battles To $6.1M; 2nd Best Opening For Faith-Based Studio Pure Flix

  • Deadline
After having its TV spots shut out by my most mainstream cable networks and its Twitter account frozen for two-three hours yesterday, PureFlix’s anti-abortion feature Unplanned, which was slapped with an R rating by the MPAA, opened to $6.1M at 1,059 theaters, making it the second-best opening for the faith-based studio’s self-distributed titles after God’s Not Dead 2 ($7.6M).

While not a huge win by major studio standards, for the indie label which produced the $5M-$6M with co-financer Mike Lindell (the inventor of MyPillow), it’s an achievement, given the controversy the pic has weathered. Arguably, there hasn’t be an R-rated, faith-based movie since Mel Gibson’s 2004 The Passion of the Christ. Typically, faith-based movies do 2-3 times their domestic box office in TV and home ancillaries. It’s Lent, so it wouldn’t be a shocker if Unplanned legs out. God’s Not Dead, which PureFlix released through FreeStyle,

Georgia’s “Heartbeat Bill” Passes House, Heads To Governor’s Desk With Hollywood Watching

  • Deadline
The Georgia House of Representatives narrowly passed a piece of legislation Friday known as the “Heartbeat Bill” that, if signed into law by Gov. Brian Kemp, would ban abortions in the state after a fetal heartbeat is detected, or about six weeks.

The 92-78 “yes” vote (91 votes were needed for passage) on Hb 481 comes as several members of the Hollywood film and TV industry — which generated $2.7 billion in direct spending in Georgia over the past year — have been calling for the bill to be voted down after it passed through the state Senate a week ago. Those calls came in part via an open letter penned earlier this week by Alyssa Milano to Georgia House Speaker David Ralston and Kemp as well as a warning from the WGA..

Box Office: ‘Dumbo’ to Outsoar ‘Us’ With $48 Million Opening
Tim Burton’s “Dumbo” is flying toward a $48 million opening weekend in North America, while the second session of Jordan Peele’s “Us” should take in about $32 million, early estimates showed on Friday.

Dumbo’s” launch is slightly lower than recent Disney forecasts for the live-action re-imagining of the 1941 animated movie. “Dumbo” earned $2.6 million on Thursday night and is expanding to 4,259 North American venues.

The movie stars Danny DeVito as the owner of a struggling circus who enlists Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), and his children Milly (Nico Parker) and Joe (Finley Hobbins) to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughingstock. The children’s love for the sad-eyed pachyderm helps him fly. Michael Keaton stars as a shady entrepreneur, with Alan Arkin as a Wall Street tycoon and Eva Green as an aerial artist.

Dumbo” is produced by Justin Springer, Ehren Kruger, Katterli Frauenfelder, and Derek Frey.

Box Office: Tim Burton’s ‘Dumbo’ Lifts Off With $2.6 Million on Thursday Night

Box Office: Tim Burton’s ‘Dumbo’ Lifts Off With $2.6 Million on Thursday Night
Tim Burton’s “Dumbo” has taken flight with an estimated $2.6 million in North America on Thursday night.

It’s a similar figure to the $3 million earned by “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” during Thursday previews and the $2.1 million gross for “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.”

Disney expects the live-action re-imagining of its 1941 animated movie to make around $50 million this weekend when it launches in 4,259 North American venues. Should that estimate hold, “Dumbo” will probably nab the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office over the second weekend of Jordan Peele’s horror hit “Us.”

Dumbo” is the latest Disney live-action remake of its animated library, highlighted by “Beauty and the Beast,” which opened with $174 million and went on to gross $1.2 billion worldwide. The studio has two more such reboots coming this summer with Guy Ritchie’s “Aladdin” launching on May 24 and Jon Favreau’s “The Lion King

‘Unplanned’ Star Ashley Bratcher On Georgia “Heartbeat Bill”: “I’m Incredibly Proud Of My Home State” – Guest Column
Editors note: Ashley Bratcher, who lives in Georgia, is starring in the Pure Flix movie Unplanned, the story of Planned Parenthood director-turned-anti-abortion activist Abby Johnson that is bowing Friday in 1,006 theaters nationwide. She reached out to Deadline to respond to Alyssa Milano’s guest column earlier this week seeking to draw Hollywood’s attention to Georgia’s “Heartbeat Bill” legislation, which proposes to outlaw abortions once a doctor detects a fetal heartbeat in the womb. Milano urged the film and TV industries, which utilize the Peach State’s expansive tax incentives, to boycott the state if the bill passes. That bill, HB481, is due for a final vote next week, with Gov. Brian Kemp expected to sign it if it gets to his desk.

Dear Alyssa Milano,

Mother to mother, actress to actress, and as a proud Georgian, I’ve got some things to say to you. Hollywood may be

Anti-Abortion Movie 'Unplanned' Finds Theatrical Distributor

Unplanned, a feature film taking a critical look at Planned Parenthood, has found a distribution partner in Pure Flix, which says it will release the movie on 800 screens on March 29.

On Thursday, backers also released a trailer, a two-and-a-half-minute clip that features primary character, Abby Johnson, renouncing abortion and Planned Parenthood, where she once worked as a clinic director.

Johnson is played by Ashley Bratcher, who told Fox News last month that her mother, at age 19, nearly aborted her but changed her mind while at the clinic the day the procedure was scheduled. In the trailer, Johnson is ...
