Sydney Cowper is a Canadian Film Editor known for her work on the feature films Sway, (2024, Best Feature, NBFF & TIBFF), All The Lost Ones, (2024 , Best Feature, Forest City Film Festival & Vancouver Horror Show), The Family (2022, Best Feature, Ignite Film Festival), Happy FKN Sunshine (2021) & Poor Agnes (2017, Best Canadian Feature, Fantasia International Film Festival).
Dabbling in Animation/Documentary, this year, Endless Cookie, edited by Sydney Cowper, World Premiered and was nominated at Sundance 2025 as part of the World Documentary Competition.
*Her most recent film Nobel And The Kid finishes post production in Winter 2025.
Other notable work includes the short films Nosocomephelia (2024), Brave Little Army (2018), and the TV mini-series Echo Park (2018).
Her emergence as a Film Editor evolved from several years as a well-regarded Assistant Picture Editor in the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC). Noteworthy feature films include Den of Thieves 2: Pantera (2025), Ivy (2022), Slash/Back (2021), Possessor (2019), The Nest (2019) & Percy vs Goliath (2018).
Sydney graduated, with honours, from the Media Arts program at Sheridan College, and since then continues to hone her faithful craft. She loves exploring the depth of human psychology, and uses her decade-long training as a pianist to influence the relationship between the pace and emotion in her work.
She also uses her experiences and technical knowledge to empower and educate others in the film industry. As an associate member of the Canadian Cinema Editors (CCE), she participates in mentorship events and was asked to speak at the 4th annual EditCon to share what is needed to be a great Assistant Editor. Sydney is an instructor in the online Pocket Film School.
Away from her editing chair, you can find her on cycling treks and other outdoor adventures with her handsome dog, Todd.
