Narim Kim

Recipient of the 2012 Alan Menken Scholarship for his diverse
excellence as a songwriter, improviser, and a composer for both visuals
and concert setting, Narim Kim,was born in Republic of Korea and was
raised in Italy by the parents who are both singers and choral
conductors. He eventually started to follow his parents' footsteps when
he came across Ennio Morricone and Nino Rota's film music and went to
Canada where he began playing piano and learn music theory and harmony
as a late teenager. Ever since, he has pursued his interest with music
composition. After obtaining Bachelor's Degree in Music Composition
(concert classical music) at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada, he
is now on the verge of completing his Master's Degree in Scoring for
Film and Multimedia at New York University Steinhardt School. His
pieces were selected to be read by prominent musical ensembles such as
Kitchener-Waterloo symphony Orchestra and The Penderecki String
Quartet, among others. He was the only undergraduate student to be
selected to present his pieces to Philippe Leroux in Young Composer
Workshop 2009 at Music Gallery in Toronto.
As a composer for visual materials, he has collaborated with Ha Na Gill for an animated short titled Agape (2012), a medium-short length film by Korean filmmaker Mikyoung Jang, Stray Cats by the Fence, also participating as an additional composer in soon-to-be released Raju Gurung's feature film - The Bicycle (2012-2013). He has been also one of the student film composers to participate in the project with Booster Films and the Paragon Feature Film Company in re-archiving and scoring a recently-discovered silent film from 1914, Past and Present in the Cradle of Dixie (Montgomery, 1914) which was presented in Museum of Moving Image in New York City as part of Orphan Film Symposium 2012.
He recently finished up his first feature with Rolling Clouds Production, My Life in Memories, along with working in the music department for Jae-Yong Kwak's upcoming film in China - My Girlfriend with Premature Menopause.
