Simone Smith is a BAFTA New Talent award-winning filmmaker from Glasgow. She's known for her critically acclaimed short films RED (2012), SLAP (2018) and THE MÖBIUS TRIP (2023). Her self-produced short film SLAP was nominated for a Scottish BAFTA and won Jury Special Mention at the Glasgow Short Film Festival, hailed as "surreal poetry" and "an impressionistic knockout" by BFI Sight and Sound. Her debut short film RED won a BAFTA New Talent award, and her latest BFI NETWORK-funded film, THE MÖBIUS TRIP, won another Jury Special Mention at the GSFF, praised for its "radicalism" and "strong and adventurous cinematic vision". Since then, it has gone on to screen at 50+ film festivals worldwide, including Edinburgh International Film Festival, Hollyshorts, BFI London, Encounters, and Beyond Fest. Further notable wins include the UK Special Mention at Encounters, Best Film at Torino Underground, Best Midnight Movie at Final Girls Berlin, the Grand Jury Award at the Chicago Underground Film Festival, and made the prestigious BIFA longlist for Best British Short Film. She is an EIFF Talent Lab participant for 2019, a BFI Network@LFF participant for 2023, a Glasgow Film Talent Mentee for 2024, and has two feature films in development: UNTIL SHE BLEEDS and IT'S TOO LATE YOU CAN'T SAVE ME with BFI Network and Screen Scotland.
