DeWanda Wise was originally tapped to play Maria Rambeau, best friend to Carol Danvers, in 2019’s “Captain Marvel.” DeWise later said she backed out due to other filming obligations, but in an interview with Collider published Sunday, the “Jurassic World Dominion” star revealed a major reason had to do with the way Marvel actors work, which she described as “my own personal nightmare.”
“When I almost did Captain Marvel, there was a crew member, because I was going down the process, and they said to me, ‘Yeah, you know how it is, these movies, you hit your mark, you say your line, you go home’ … I heard that and I was like, ‘That is my own personal nightmare.… pic.twitter.com/n6TthhDBa9

DeWanda Wise, who can currently be seen on the big screen in the Blumhouse horror movie Imaginary, joined Universal’s Jurassic Park / Jurassic World franchise with the most recent film, Jurassic World Dominion, where she took on the role of former US Air Force pilot Kayla Watts. Now a new entry in the franchise is on the fast track to production, but during an interview with Collider, Wise revealed that she doesn’t expect to be in the new film.
When asked if she’ll be returning for the new Jurassic film, Wise said, “I’m gonna be honest with you, and I don’t think so. And that makes me sad.“

“Jurassic Park” will always find a way to continue.
After the perceived conclusion to the sequel trilogy with “Jurassic World: Dominion,” director Colin Trevorrow revealed that it wasn’t until the marketing campaign that he realized the film was poised to be not only the end of the modern trilogy, but of the franchise as a whole.
“I never knew that this was the ending of the franchise until I saw the marketing,” Trevorrow told Empire magazine. “Those guys are brilliant at what they do, but for me I think it might have been clearer if they’d said, ‘The end of an era’ as opposed to all of it. Because regardless of the cynical approach — of course they’re going to want to make more money, which is what ‘Jurassic World’ was about — a new dinosaur fan is born every day.”

“Jurassic World Dominion” recently crossed the coveted 1 billion mark at the worldwide box office, making it the third consecutive film in the franchise to hit that milestone. Moviegoers around the world seemingly can’t get enough of the “Jurassic” movies, but “Dominion” director Colin Trevorrow recently suggested to Empire magazine that none of the sequels should’ve even been made. In Trevorrow’s own words, the “Jurassic” franchise “probably” should’ve started and ended with Steven Spielberg’s 1993 original.
“I specifically did something different than the other films in order to change the DNA of the franchise,” Trevorrow said about “Jurassic World Dominion.” “The previous five films are plots about dinosaurs. This one is a story about characters in a world in which they coexist with dinosaurs.”
Trevorrow then called the “Jurassic” franchise “inherently un-franchisable” and said, “There probably should have only been one ‘Jurassic Park’ — but if we’re gonna do it,...

"Jurassic World Dominion" director Colin Trevorrow has news regarding the beloved franchise -- or perhaps, given how critics received the film, a threat. In a recent interview with Empire, Trevorrow said that he's already been talking to Universal about the possible future of the "Jurassic Park" series, noting that the new characters introduced in "Dominion" have the potential to move the story forward:
"This movie clearly takes a real interest in creating new characters that a new generation is going to latch on to –- Kayla Watts [DeWanda Wise], and Mamoudou Athie's character Ramsay Cole, who I think, in the Extended Edition, you really feel his purpose in a greater way. And Dichen Lachman's character [Soyona Santos], who just gets arrested at the end, there's more to come."

Over three months after the movie’s release in theaters, we’ve learned today that Jurassic World Dominion has finally crossed 1 Billion at the worldwide box office this week.
Variety reports, “To date, Jurassic World Dominion has collected 376 million at the domestic box office and 624 million internationally.”
That puts Dominion in the Billion Dollar Club with both Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which both stomped their way to even bigger worldwide totals.
Jurassic World made 1.67 billion in 2015, while Fallen Kingdom made 1.3 billion in 2018.
Jurassic World Dominion was positioned as the final film the Jurassic World Trilogy, but we can be pretty sure that Universal will be headed back into this world in the near future.
Both the Theatrical and brand new Extended versions of Jurassic World Dominion are now streaming on Peacock, the latter cut running a whopping 14 minutes longer.

Bryce Dallas Howard is opening up about conversations centered on her body that she says took place ahead of the Jurassic World Dominion shoot.
The actress, who plays Claire Dearing opposite Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady in Universal Pictures’ dinosaur-focused franchise, was asked by Metro in an interview published Thursday to discuss what her role and the latest film meant for female representation in Hollywood action movies. Howard responded by saying she has “been asked to not use my natural body in cinema” but that director Colin Trevorrow stepped in to support her.
“On the third movie, it was actually because there were so many women cast, it was something that Colin felt very strongly about in terms of protecting me…because the conversation came up again, ‘We need to ask Bryce to lose weight,'” she said. “He was like, ‘There are...

I remember how perfectly John Williams’ lush score for 1993’s Jurassic Park set the stage for what was to follow. That film was imaginative, funny, scary, and filled with interesting doings. Since then, every sequel has paled in comparison, lifting bits and pieces of the memorable theme and elements from the first film. What filled in the large gaps were just…more. More dinosaurs. More chases. More corporate stupidity. What was a noble, yet misguided plan was undermined by corporate greed, a theme that was exhausted by the time Wayne Knight was devoured.
The Jurassic World reboot with Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard was entertaining enough and the CGI improved so we could see more nuance among the species that were now becoming a global ecological threat. Add in some genetic shenanigans with the arrival of Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), you have some new tones to play with.

“Jurassic World Dominion” stars DeWanda Wise and Bryce Dallas Howard recently told Insider they aren’t letting themselves get phased by the overwhelmingly negative reviews to the sequel. “Dominion” has a 30 on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the worst-reviewed movie in the franchise.
“From my perspective, I’ve always been pretty critic-immune. We made a movie during a pandemic,” Wise said. “Like, honestly, you can print this if you want: You can’t tell me shit.”
“We were the first production back during a pandemic,” Wise continued. “We all lived together. The people who received this movie with the love that it was created with, that’s where I put my focus. That’s just who I am naturally. I don’t go where I’m not loved.”
Wise concluded about the film scoring negative reviews: “I don’t care.”
“It’s important to say that you are loved everywhere,” Howard told Wise directly.

On Monday night, “Jurassic World Dominion” DeWanda Wise posed outside the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, taking in the emotions around unveiling her brand-new character, pilot Kayla Watts, to a theater full of anxious fans.
Asked what she’ll most remember about joining this nearly 30-year-old franchise, Wise told Variety, “Probably the fan love, especially tonight.”
Clad in a shimmering Valentino gown, Wise shared the black carpet moment with her mother, brother, husband (fellow actor Alano Miller) and some of her lifelong friends. “My family’s here. My friends from New York are here, it’s very special,” she noted. “These are my day one’s, my 20-pluses. My success is theirs.”

To say that “Jurassic World: Dominion” squanders its potential would imply it had much to begin with. Perhaps some other, theoretical sequel to J.A. Bayona’s serviceable “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” may have had promise, as a follow-up to that haunted-house creature-feature that ends with a human clone setting dinosaurs loose upon our world. However, “Dominion” director and co-writer Colin Trevorrow (the man responsible for “The Book of Henry”) is the opposite of an idea guy. His apparent “Jurassic” finale goes by the way of “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” — ironic, since that was Trevorrow’s job — and brushes aside every promise made by its predecessor. It’s a sequel whose images convey little meaning, other than that which they borrow from other movies, and

The generous read on “Jurassic World Dominion” is that it’s a metaphor unto itself; the ongoing moral of the film series is that mixing the wrong strains of DNA leads to disaster, and that lesson is writ large in the awkward and clumsy attempt to graft the stars of the original “Jurassic Park” onto the “Jurassic World” movies, a combo platter that only serves to make the latter-day protagonists even less interesting by comparison.
The other generous read, although it’s damning with faint praise, is to call this the best “Jurassic” movie since the original in 1993, but that doesn’t mean this one’s not, much like its predecessors, a hot mess. It’s just a hot mess with some effectively scary bits, a cool car chase and Laura Dern.

As the women of “Jurassic World Dominion” reflect on the franchise’s feminist origins, the movie’s youngest female lead, 15-year-old Isabella Sermon notes the importance of having a powerful trio of women — Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler, Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing and DeWanda Wise’s Kayla Watts — to look up to.

“Dinosaurs eat man. Woman inherits the earth.”
That quip from Laura Dern’s Dr. Ellie Sattler in 1993’s “Jurassic Park” has been immortalized on T-shirts, bumper stickers and coffee mugs ever since the first film in the mega-billion-dollar dinosaur franchise debuted in theaters. But that piece of sexual politics wasn’t in the original script.
“God bless everyone involved who allowed this to be in a movie,” Dern says, reflecting on the scene. “Because that’s what it felt like at that time. I felt like we got away with something.”
A lot has changed in the ensuing three decades, but that line still roars. And it’s a piece of dialogue that has become a central strand in “Jurassic’s” DNA. Because, after all, it’s not just men who enjoy watching a T. rex feast on parkgoers; women dig dinosaurs too. In a sign of the cross-gender appeal,...
