Hungarian born Judit Varga lives in Vienna where she works as a pianist and composer. Besides concert music, she is interested in setting short features, theatre performances to music as well as writing for multimedia events and festivals.
Her compositions have been played in such prestigious festivals and concert halls as Wien Modern, the Hungarian State Opera House, Citee de la musique Paris, Juilliard School of Music in New York, Budapest Autumn Festival, Mini Festival, Konzerthaus and Musikverein Wien, Muffathalle Muenchen, Warsaw Autumn.
Judit Varga works with world leader ensembles and orchestras and regularly gives concerts worldwide as a solo pianist or chamber musician. In her wide piano repertoire, besides the most important works of classical music literature, also new, contemporary and twentieth century pieces can be found.
Judit Varga is the first prize winner of many prestigious, international piano and composition competitions. As a reward for her outstanding artistic performance, in 2011 and 2014 she received the Creative Award of the Austrian Education and Training Ministry, and in 2012 she was awarded by the City of Vienna.
She won the Kodaly Zoltan music and composing scholarship of the Ministry of Education and Culture three times (2002, 2003 and 2006) as well as the Tokyo Foundation scholarship twice (2001 and 2004). In 2017 Judit Varga was awarded with Bela Bartok - Ditta Pasztory Prize for her work contribution for Hungarian contemporary music and cultural life of Hungary. In 2018 Judit Varga was awarded with Erkel Prize by the Hungarian Government.
Her name brands such works as the design of the Prima Primissima Prize's musical image, and she is the music composer of more than 30 theatre performances and films.
In 2016, on the 60th anniversary of the 1956 revolution, the Hungarian State Opera commissioned and premiered her opera: Love (Szerelem) in Budapest with great success. The piece was the winner for adaptation of the film with the identical title: Szerelem by Tibor Dery- Karoly Makk-Peter Bacso.
In 2013 and 2014 she was the nominee of the Austrian Academy of Films in the category of"Best Soundtrack". In 2014 she won the prize for the film music of Deine Schoenheit ist nichts Wert.
Since 2013, Judit has been an appointed lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Also, since 2013, she has been teaching composition, film and media art at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
