David Carter(XXIX)
- Producer
- Writer
David Carter was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but spent most of his childhood
in middle class suburbia in Delaware. He graduated from Newark
High (in Newark, DE) in 1976 and then attended the U.S. Military
Academy at West Point, NY, after earning a nomination from then Senator
Joe Biden.
Dave's class at USMA entered the academy the summer after the largest honor scandal in its history (over 200 cadets were accused of cheating). The Class of 1980 was also the first class with female cadets in the ranks. At the end of his second year at USMA, Dave elected to resign (honorable discharge) and transfer to the University of Delaware, where he graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration in 1980.
Dave ventured west to Silicon Valley in 1982, and lived there until 2022. In 1985 he married Yvette Fodor-Carter, to whom their daughter, Alyssa Carter, was born. Six years after his first marriage ended, Dave met Susan Carter, whom he married in 1998, and to whom two daughters, Riley and Risa Carter, were born.
For most of his career (as a tech writer), Dave opted for a steady paycheck over pursuit of screenwriting and filmmaking aspirations, though over the years, his sense of humor forced a number of job changes. However, especially after the worldwide financial collapse of 2008, Dave has been writing feature film scripts on spec and producing short indie films.
His experience at West Point during that tumultuous time inspired Dave to write THE LAND I ONCE KNEW, a coming-of-age feature script, the fourth draft of which was a quarter-finalist in the PAGE Intl. contest in 2008. Dave has a dozen other scripts in development.
