The 2020s has turned out to be a surprisingly great decade for the horror subgenre. Here are the five best slasher films that it has given us so far.

“Freaky” (Universal Pictures) “Freaky” (2020)

The spirits in Ghosts do have a power ranking (and here it is)
Image
All of the Main 8 ghosts have now had their powers revealed in Ghosts season 4. Pete has ranked them all, but he’s off when it comes to how great some powers are.

Pete had decided that there are different tiers of powers based on how effective and important they are. He uses the way they can connect to the world of the living, and the way he can get off the property. However, he’s overlooking a few great elements of a couple of powers, and Pete’s ability to roam isn’t all that great when you consider other aspects of the spirits’ abilities.

I have my ranking of how great the abilities are. Do you agree with mine? These are in order from best to worst.

8 Lessons Terminator 7 Can Learn From Netflix’s Terminator Zero Anime
Image
Netflix’s Terminator Zero anime is arguably the best Terminator project since the James Cameron movies, and there are plenty of things Terminator 7 can learn from it. While James Cameron has confirmed that he is working on a secret Terminator project, the status of Terminator 7 is unclear. However, assuming that a new Terminator film does happen eventually, it will have big shoes to fill after how well-received Terminator Zero was. With an 86% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes, Terminator Zero is the franchise’s highest-rated movie or show since Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Terminator Zero takes place mostly two years after the events of Terminator 2, although it also includes scenes set in the near future. The anime series can be considered one of the many Terminator timelines and is not too worried about how it intersects with the movies. Instead, Terminator Zero tells a somewhat self-contained story that perfectly fits into that world.

10 Best Shows Like Outer Banks
Image
Since 2020, Netflix's drama series Outer Banks has captivated audiences with its beautiful beachy setting and strange mysteries, but those seeking a strong follow-up should look no further, as the following ten shows are the best alternatives. For four seasons now, Outer Banks has centered on the socially divided teenagers of Outer Banks, North Carolina, and in particular, John B., who is searching for his missing father. Thus far, the series has garnered fairly positive reviews, with audiences quickly becoming invested in the show's mystery and melodrama. Yet, once Outer Banks ends, viewers may not know what to watch next.

Outer Banks is a somewhat unique show. Though it definitely can be labeled as a teen drama, the show is not completely defined by its interpersonal problems. At the heart of Outer Banks is a mystery which pushes the plot forward and keeps audiences invested. On top of that, Outer Banks...

Terminator Zero Cast & Character Guide
Image
Set within the Terminator universe, Netflix's sci-fi action anime Terminator Zero introduces a brand-new roster of characters and cast members to the storied franchise. Developed by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman) and directed by animator Masashi Kud (Bleach), the eight-episode first season of the series was beautifully crafted by animation studio Production I.G. and Skydance Television. Unlike other entries in the Terminator timeline, Terminator Zero takes place in Japan, though it still pulls in lore, including Terminator's post-apocalyptic Judgment Day, from James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd's pre-existing Terminator movies, sequels, and spin-offs.

For fans of the franchise, Terminator Zero puts forth familiar story beats, but with a few fresh twists, making the Netflix anime the definitive example of how the Terminator franchise can move forward. As Judgment Day approaches, scientist Malcolm Lee (Andr Holland) frets over whether to release his AI system, Kokoro (Rosario Dawson), to counteract the soon-to-be-launched Skynet.

Miller's Girl Ending, Explained
Image
Quick Links Miller's Girl Dives Into an Inappropriate Student-Teacher Relationship Cairo and Winnie Are Desperate For Love The Ending of Miller's Girl is Psychologically Disturbing

When critics label a movie "controversial," audiences need to ask themselves if that was the director's intended purpose of the film or if the people who actually watched the story unfold felt uncomfortable and decided to label it as such. With Miller's Girl, there is absolutely no debate; it is meant to make you cringe. Miller's Girl was initially released in theaters in January 2024, but that was short-lived as no one cared to see an erotic thriller about a student-teacher affair, even if Jenna Ortega and Mark Freeman's characters were getting hot and heavy on camera. Now, with the movie moving over to Netflix, people are clicking on it and finding the plot quite repulsive.

The story starts off with Cairo Sweet (Ortega) joining...

Image
The first full-length trailer for Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three has just hit (via Toonado.com), and it teases what looks to be a high-stakes finale to this animated trilogy (and the Tomorrowverse as we know it).

In terms of cameos, the trailer ends with another Batman: The Animated Series tease. Batman Beyond also appears, but perhaps the biggest surprise comes when we return to the world of the Super Friends!

The Saturday morning cartoon aired between 1973 and 1985 on ABC and was produced by Hanna-Barbera. That classic animation style returns here and we're hoping the movie has even...

Justice League: Crisis On Infinite Earths - Part Two Review - Disappointing Superhero Film Lacks Urgency
Image
Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two has limited character development, which impacts the emotional investment. Low stakes and lack of urgency make the film's plot feel tedious. Lack of focus and interconnection between characters weakens the overall story.

Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Two begins directly after Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One, an unexpectedly moving entry, ends, continuing the story of the Monitor (Jonathan Adams) and the multiverse of superheroes who are doing everything in their power to stop the destruction of their earths. The film is two of three that will close out the DC Universe Animated Movies’ Tomorrowverse, but while Part One had plenty of action and a lot of heart, Part Two falters and loses steam. The stakes aren’t as high and the characters are more scattered without focus.

Miller’s Girl Review
Image
Plot: A creative writing assignment yields complex results between a teacher and his talented student.

Review: I wasn’t sure what to make of Miller’s Girl when I first heard of it. The idea of a teacher falling for a student isn’t exactly new, but there was a mystery present that I appreciated. And it’s honestly, given that subject matter, a very tough film to talk about. The topic is taboo and won’t be for everyone, and the filmmakers really take advantage of that uncomfortably. On a technical side, the film is gorgeously shot and takes advantage of its beautiful sets. Plus, I have a soft spot for erotic thrillers. But this one has very few teeth and is as obvious as they come.

There’s clearly something not quite right about Jenna Ortega‘s Cairo right from the start. She exhibits an intellectual way of dissecting...

Miller's Girl Review | Jenna Ortega's Erotic Fiction with Martin Freeman Is Hot with No Spark
Image
What if you combined movies like Fair Play, Gone Girl, Fatal Attraction, A Teacher, May December and even Fifty Shades of Grey? An artificial intelligence output involving these films might be a sort of erotic thriller about an inappropriate teacher-student rapport on the outskirts of civilization, something like Miller's Girl. It's a sexually charged story that weaves in juicy side plots dealing with the struggles of a writer and maintaining a day job amid tricky circumstances.

It helps that the red-hot Jenna Ortega and seasoned veteran Martin Freeman are around to inject some life in an otherwise underwhelming film. Writer-director Jade Halley Bartlett has an impressive grasp on the technical aspect of her craft, and promises good things for her future. But even the committed turns from Ortega and Freeman can't save Miller's Girl from ultimately flopping due to emotional flatness and a weak ending.

An Erotic Literary Relationship

Rating: 3.5/5.0

Jonathan Miller (Martin Freeman) is a creative writing teacher who has a new student named Cairo (Jenna Ortega). ‘Miller’s Girl’ Review: Martin Freeman Shines Opposite Jenna Ortega in Layered Teacher-Student Romance That Questions Complicity
Image
“I’m 18 and highly unremarkable.”

So starts “Miller’s Girl,” a drama-slash-psychological thriller that serves more so as an indictment of modern multilayered sexual politics than an (as marketed) after school special. As our lead character Cairo Sweet (Jenna Ortega) says, “longing” to experience something is the most dangerous force there is, and for Cairo, that longing culminates in a misguided crush and a politicized heartbreak with a professor (Martin Freeman).

High school student Cairo enrolls in a creative writing class taught by frustrated novelist Jonathan Miller (Freeman), who immediately takes a liking to her after spotting that she has a copies of both his debut novel and Henry Miller’s salacious works. Written and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, “Miller’s Girl” plays on the titular Mr. Miller and the real-life author Miller himself, with Cairo’s compulsion to impress and find solace in her teacher further radicalized by taking on...

‘Miller’s Girl’ Review: A Small-Town Teen Learns That Adult Ambition Comes at a Steep Price
Image
“Miller’s Girl,” about a relationship that develops between a wise-beyond-her-years teenager and her intellectually undernourished teacher, feels like catnip for the circular discourse of Film Twitter, but it’s hard to tell where a study of post-#MeToo power dynamics will land with moviegoers in the real world.

Written, produced and directed by Jade Halley Bartlett, the film is both impressively erudite and unrelentingly self-aware, a combination it bravely attempts but doesn’t quite fully balance. But Jenna Ortega’s movie-star confidence in the title role more than eclipses Martin Freeman’s shoe-leather character acting, a perhaps inevitable outcome given the age and gender politics exercised in its story — but not necessarily one that gets at something truly interesting.

Ortega (“Wednesday”) plays Cairo Sweet, a high school student living in a small Tennessee town while her absent lawyer parents travel the globe on unnamed business. Summed up with cheeky precision...

She’s set to start filming Wednesday season 2 in a few months, she’s in the crime thriller Finestkind (which just started streaming on Paramount+ last Friday), and on January 26th she’ll be back on the big screen when Lionsgate gives the psychological thriller Miller’s Girl a theatrical release.
