Which ‘Dancing with the Stars: Athletes’ pro do you want to win? [Poll]
With Chris Mazdzer and Witney Carson’s elimination on Monday’s “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” we are guaranteed a new pro winner. Sharna Burgess, Sasha Farber and Jenna Johnson have never taken home the Mirrorball — and only one of them, Burgess, has even been to a final. Earlier this season, 64 percent of our readers said the two-time runner-up deserves to finally nab a victory, but who do you actually want to win?

Currently in her 11th straight season, Burgess is the longest tenured pro of this season’s cast. She has a third-place finish with Noah Galloway (Season 20) and two second-place finishes with Nick Carter (Season 21) and James Hinchcliffe (Season 23), so you could say she’s “earned” a win. She and Josh Norman came out firing in Week 1, had a dip in Week 2, but recovered with a great contemporary routine — with one helluva lift — and a victory over Mazdzer

Shawn Johnson should’ve won ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 15, readers say

Shawn Johnson should’ve won ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 15, readers say
Dancing with the Stars” has had nine athlete runners-up and will add a 10th after this all-athletes season. Of those first nine, 34 percent of our readers voted in a recent poll that Shawn Johnson should’ve definitely won Season 15 with Derek Hough.

Johnson and Hough came in second to Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani on the all-stars season. The Olympic gymnast won Season 8 with Mark Ballas and was seeking to becoming the first celebrity to win two Mirroball trophies. Both couples received high marks throughout the season, but perhaps Johnson’s previous win (as well as Hough’s three wins) hurt them in the fan votes.

Twenty-five percent of our readers feel that James Hinchcliffe and Sharna Burgess were robbed of a win on Season 23. The IndyCar driver lost to Olympic gymnast Laurie Hernandez and Val Chmerkovskiy, who dominated the season.

‘Dancing with the Stars: Athletes’ cast reveals team names
After pairings are announced for “Dancing with the Stars,” the next order of business is not to get to rehearsal — nay, it’s to come up with a team name. That’s not as easy as it sounds. You want to be fun, cheeky, succinct and hashtag-able. If you’re lucky, it can come easily to you; if you’re not, you could stress about it every waking minute.

This was true for some of the couples on “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” but they persevered. See their team names below — and check back as the rest get announced.

Peta Murgatroyd open to a Season 27 ‘Dancing with the Stars’ return: ‘It’s definitely a possibility’

Peta Murgatroyd open to a Season 27 ‘Dancing with the Stars’ return: ‘It’s definitely a possibility’
Peta Murgatroyd won’t be on “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes,” but unlike her husband, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, she likely hasn’t had her last dance. Asked by the “Akron Beacon Journal” if she’d return for Season 27 in the fall, Murgatroyd said, “It’s definitely a possibility.”

Along with her husband and her brother-in-law Val Chmerkovskiy, Murgatroyd is sitting out the four-week, all-athletes installment because of their “Confidential” tour. Maks said last week that he’d like to transition into judging on “Dancing,” but Murgatroyd can still see herself going for a third Mirrorball trophy.

“I love that show,” she said. “I’ve had such a great seven years. It’s made me what I am today. I love the feel of a competition. I’m a very competitive person and I like to win. It’s a great show because you meet so many incredible people.”

“Maks had been on the show for a long time and has always been one of our favorite pros,” user Debbie wrote. “It would be a wonderful thing to see him as a judge.”

You may have seen the last of Maksim Chmerkovskiy on the “Dancing with the Stars” floor, but perhaps not on the show. While he doesn’t see himself returning as a pro anymore, the dancer would love to stick around as a judge if ABC would have him.

“I would have loved to judge and transition into that, but it’s not my call,” he told MassLive.com.” “It’s not up to me. Everything that is up to me, I do at 100 percent and then give it my all. I just don’t think I can do the show as a professional dancer at 100 percent and give it my all anymore. I am at a different point in my life.”

‘Dancing with the Stars’: Apolo Anton Ohno voted favorite male athlete winner [Poll Results]
Apolo Anton Ohno has danced off with another win: The short track speed skater is your favorite male athlete winner of “Dancing with the Stars.” With 39 percent of the vote, Ohno was way ahead of the other five contenders.

The eight-time Olympic medalist won Season 4 in 2007 with Julianne Hough, beating Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson with their electric hip-hop freestyle. Ohno later placed fifth with Karina Smirnoff in the all-star season.

Well behind in second place with 26 percent is Rashad Jennings, who won Season 24 with Emma Slater. The former New York Giants running back took down frontrunners Normani Kordei and Val Chmerkovskiy, who had to settle for third place behind runner-ups David Ross and Lindsay Arnold.

Mark your calendars: The “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes” cast will be unveiled on Friday, April 13 on “Good Morning, America,” ABC announced Monday. The season, which premieres April 30, will feature 10 athletes vying for the Mirrorball trophy.

You can probably expect some of “Dancing”’s staples in the cast: football players and Olympians. Numerous Pyeongchang Olympians, like figure skater Mirai Nagasu, have expressed interest.

While the cast of athletes is still under wraps, we do know the identity of one pro: Gleb Savchenko confirmed last week that he’ll return for his fifth “Dancing” season. Meanwhile, Peta Murgatroyd said last month that she and husband Maksim Chmekovskiy won’t be back due to their “Confidential” tour; her brother-in-law Val Chmerkovskiy is also in the show and presumably will sit out the season as well.

‘Dancing with the Stars’: Who is your favorite female athlete winner? [Poll]
It’s no surprise “Dancing with the Stars” is trying its hand at an all-athletes season, premiering April 30. Athletes are one of the most successful class of contestants in the show’s history, producing 10 winners in 25 seasons. Of those 10, four were women. Which one of them was your favorite?

All four champs also happen to be Olympians — a very fruitful subsect of athletes — and gold medalists at that in the marquee sports of the Summer and Winter Olympics. 1992 Olympic figure skating champion Kristi Yamaguchi was the first, taking home the Mirrorball trophy in Season 6 in 2008 with Mark Ballas. The pair dominated the season, topping the leaderboard 10 out of 12 times, and received four of the perfect 30s given out during the season.

‘Dancing with the Stars’: Who is your favorite male athlete winner? [Poll]
While female Olympians have struck Mirrorball glory on “Dancing with the Stars,” it’s a different story for the dudes. The most successful male athletes on the show are football players. Shocking, right? (Not.) Of the 10 athletes that have won “Dancing” in its first 25 seasons, six were men and four of those men were pigskin players. So you can probably book a football player or two for the upcoming “Dancing with the Stars: Athletes.” But which of these six champs has your vote?

The first male athlete to win “Dancing” was Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith, who won Season 3 in 2006 with Cheryl Burke over Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff, who outscored Smith and Burke during the season. Smith and Burke reteamed for the all-star season and finished fourth.

Smith was the beginning of four straight athlete champs, with Kristi Yamaguchi being the fourth. Short track speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno,

Zendaya and Val Chmerkovskiy were ‘robbed’ on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 16 [Poll Results]
Val Chmerkovskiy isn’t the only one still haunted by his and Zendaya‘s “Dancing with the Stars” loss on Season 16. In a recent poll, a massive 70 percent of our readers believe the pair should’ve won over Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough.

“Of course they were robbed, big-time!” user K.bell wrote. “Zendaya danced her ass off each time and was so talented. Derek and Kelli [sic] were good, but no way was she better than Zendaya. Val was right to feel the way he does because its [sic] the absolute truth.”

Val Chmerkovskiy: Zendaya’s ‘Dancing with the Stars’ loss is ‘my biggest heartbreak’ — should they have won? [Poll]
It’s been almost five years, but “Dancing with the Stars” pro Val Chmerkovskiy is still not over his and Zendaya’s loss on Season 16. The duo finished second to Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough.

“I wish I could go back and have another chance at that season,” he tells “Entertainment Tonight” while promoting his new book “I’ll Never Change My Name.” “My biggest heartbreak was on ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ not winning with Zendaya, honestly. That was a huge heartbreak for me because she was 16. I wanted this to be such a huge moment for her. She worked so hard, and I really wanted her to lift that trophy and jump-start her career. And she didn’t lift the trophy and I felt heartbroken about that.”
