Attention, Hollywood — William H. Macy would like to direct your film.

Macy is coming off making his feature directorial debut with music drama “Rudderless,” which has opened domestically last month and is for sale at the American Film Market from Radiant Film Intl.

“We are sort of in the catbird seat on ‘Rudderless,’ I think,” Macy said. “And I’m dying to do it again.”

Rudderless” centers on a grieving father (Billy Crudup) who’s in a downward spiral until he stumbles across a box of his recently deceased son’s demo tapes and lyrics and forms a band in the hope of finding peace. Unified PicturesKeith Kjarval and Brad Greiner produced.

Macy, who had directed TV episodes, began shooting last year on a 25-day sked.

“In indie film, you are already four days behind when you start,” he said. “I wound up with way more film than I needed.

William H. Macy's Directorial Debut 'Rudderless' Goes to Paramount
Paramount Home Media Distribution and Samuel Goldwyn Films announced today a collaboration to bring Rudderless to theatrical and home viewing audiences. The feature directorial debut of Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee William H. Macy, Rudderless was produced by Keith Kjarval (Unified Pictures) and Brad Greiner in association with Aaron L. Gilbert's Bron Studios and had its world premiere as the Closing Night Film at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival. The film stars Billy Crudup (Almost Famous), Anton Yelchin (Star Trek Into Darkness), Felicity Huffman (Desperate Housewives), Jamie Chung (Believe), Selena Gomez (Spring Breakers) and Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix).

Samuel Goldwyn Films will handle U.S. theatrical distribution day-and-date with Paramount Home Media Distribution's VOD release. Paramount will also handle other U.S. ancillary platforms and all distribution in Canada, the UK, Russia and certain territories in Asia.

Paramount is in talks for North America rights to William H. Macy’s musical drama “Rudderless,” the closing night film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

The studio is planning to distribute the film with the Samuel Goldwyn Co. in the fall.

Rudderless” stars Macy, Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, Laurence Fishburne and Felicity Huffman.

Macy made his feature directorial debut, helming from a script by Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison about a grieving father (Crudup) who finds salvation from the discovery of his deceased son’s demo tapes and lyrics.

Producers are Keith Kjarval of Unified Pictures and Brad Greiner. Wme Global is representing the rights.

2014 Sundance Film Festival Predictions: William H. Macy’s Rudderless

If there is a “predictions thematic” playing out here it’s the number of films with actors who move behind the camera. Chalk up Park City regular William H. Macy (last visited the festival with The Surrogate aka The Sessions) as one who could shore up at the fest with his shot in Oklahoma, music drama starring Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez, Laurence Fishburne with Macy and his wife, Felicity Huffman showing up as supporting players. Rudderless commenced production in April of this year.

Gist: Written by Macy, Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison, this centers on a grieving father in a downward spiral who forms a band after stumbling across a box of his deceased son’s original music.

Mars Films has acquired distribution rights for all French-speaking markets to William H. Macy‘s directorial debut, “Rudderless.”

Radiant Films has launched sales of international territories at Cannes for the music drama, which has started shooting.

Macy is starring along with Felicity Huffman, Billy Crudup, Anton Yelchin, Selena Gomez and Laurence Fishburne.

Keith Kjarval is producing through his Unified Pictures production-finance banner in association with Bron Studios. Brad Greiner is also producing through his Amberdale shingle. Bron’s Aaron L. Gilbert is exec producing.

Rudderless” centers on a grieving father in a downward spiral who forms a band after stumbling across a box of his deceased son’s original music. Casey Twenter and Jeff Robison adapted the screenplay from the original story they wrote with Macy.
