Matthew Daddario was born and raised in New York to Richard and Christina Daddario, both lawyers. He studied business at Indiana University in Bloomington. He graduated in 2010, after which he began studying acting and started auditioning.

He is the middle child, with a younger sister, Catharine Daddario, and an older sister, Alexandra Daddario, who is also an actress.

Matt has Italian, Irish, English, and Hungarian/Slovak ancestry.

Younger brother of actress Alexandra Daddario.
His father is of three quarters Italian and one quarter Irish descent, while his mother has Hungarian/Slovak, German, and English ancestry.
Originally auditioned for the part of "Jace Wayland" in the Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016) TV series. When the book author, Cassandra Clare, watched his audition video, she tagged it "Would be perfect Alec" for the producers. Later, he auditioned and landed the role of "Alec Lightwood".
He is the only son and middle child between an older sister, Alexandra Daddario, and a younger sister, Catharine Daddario.
Has appeared in national TV spots for Amazon Kindle and Burger King.
His father, Richard C. Daddario, was a Prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney's Office in NYC for 13 years, before being named NYC Police Department Deputy Commissioner for Counterterrorism (2010-2013). His mother is lawyer Christina Titus.
His paternal grandfather was Emilio Daddario (Emilio Q. Daddario), a Democratic representative to the United States House of Representatives for the state of Connecticut from 1959 to 1971.
Some of his hobbies are amateur astronomy, cooking and Sci-Fi books.
His favorite TV series are Archer (2009), Breaking Bad (2008), and The Knick The Knick (2014).
