Öystein Thorsen was born in Norway, and like many other filmmakers he bossed his friends around in order to realize his projects. However, as the friends got increasingly harder to boss, the film-interest took a dive, until he moved to Sweden and enrolled at the University of Örebro. There he joined like-minded and made various segments for the Campus TV.
Still, with fellow aspiring filmmakers available for exploitation, Öystein seemed to have a hard time "bothering" others with his projects, or maybe he just enjoyed the freedom of working alone. Until a couple of documentaries came to fruition, which required at least a camera man. The first documentary was sold to Swedish TV4, and the other got a DVD/VOD deal in Sweden, and also a distribution deal with an LA based agent - whatever that means.
A few short-films followed - one of them with a proper crew, another in complete solitude - but since Öystein only works with his own projects, income had to be made from jobs and assignments outside of the film industry, which in turn offered less time for filmmaking.
Then came covid - and a fiancee. She inspired Öystein to make a different type of film. Without a screenplay, again almost entirely by himself. In the spring of 2021 "Behind the Scenes" clocked in at 67 minutes, Öystein's longest film to date, but also the most groundbreaking, utilizing whatever he could find at the property in an attempt to create a delusion, alternative universe or nightmare - but also with the next feature in mind: an indie (almost) zero budget sci-fi/drama, hopefully ready for festivals or distribution in the summer of 2022.
