“Blaze” is Ethan Hawke’s finest hour as a filmmaker

Among the many actors who also step behind the camera to direct, few are more underrated than Ethan Hawke. You can write whole articles on his acting prowess (and we have), but he’s also quite a filmmaker as well. This week, his best narrative feature to date is hitting screens in Blaze, an unconventional biopic of a criminally unknown Austin based musician. You can feel the passion that Hawke has for the topic, as it’s engrained in the film from start to finish. With a tremendous performance by Ben Dickey in the title role, there’s a lot to like here. Blaze, rather quietly, is one of the better independent outings of the summer. The movie is a look at the life of Blaze Foley (Dickey), adapted from his partner Sybil Rosen’s book Living in the Woods in a Tree: Remembering Blaze. Here, the official film synopsis

‘Claws’ Star Niecy Nash Hints Season 2 Will Involve More Backstories – Atx
“You’re going to get to a little more of our backstories,” teased Claws star Niecy Nash, speaking on what to expect in the new season of the TNT drama, which airs tomorrow. “You’re going to get to see behind the veil of why we are the way we are…if you have a character favorite, you’re going to be able to get to know her him] a lot better,” she added

During her turn at Austin’s Atx Television Festival, Nash was joined by series creator Eliot Laurence, showrunner Janine Sherman Barrois, and co-stars Judy Reyes, Carrie Preston, and Dean Norris, who was fashionably late to the party after experiencing flight delays.

In season 1, the show followed the rise of five diverse and treacherous manicurists, led by Desna (Nash), working at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County in Florida, where a lot more is going on besides silk wraps and pedicures.

Claws Sneak Peak: First Look at Season 2

The women of Claws can commiserate with Michael Corleone.

In The Godfather Part III, Corleone famously proclaimed "Every time I think I'm out, they drag me back in."

That quotation pretty much sums up Claws Season 1 for the owner and employees of Nail Artisans of Manatee County in Florida.

Owner Desna Simms' salon had been laundering money for the Dixie Mafia, under an arrangement she had with her boy toy Roller, adopted son of psycho local mob boss Big Daddy.

Desna is basically a nurturer at heart. Everything she did was to try to better the lives of her "girls" at the salon and her brilliant but autistic brother Dean, who lives with her.

Still, her methods were somewhat questionable in Season 1. In the course of trying to help others, she laundered money, attempted murder, covered up said attempted murder, stole drug money, and set up two other murders, albeit unintentionally.
