George Knight Pond III entered the Juris Doctor program at Rutgers Law School in August 2022 with his incorporeal hereditament to fight tyranny. George Knight Pond II (1918-2013) fought for the U.S. Army Air Corps against Nazis in World War II. During his military service in the 339th Bomb Squadron of the 96th Bomb Group, Eighth Air Force, he rose from the rank of flying cadet to First Lieutenant as he flew 18 combat missions, receiving the air medal with Two Oak Leaf Combat Clusters, the POW Medal and the American Campaign Medal with Bronze Star. George Knight Pond (1824-1897) fought for the Union New York Volunteers against Confederates in the American Civil War. During his military service in the 142nd Regiment of the New York Infantry, he rose from the rank of Sergeant to Lieutenant as his Regiment saw extensive action in defense of Washington, D.C. and throughout later campaign actions in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
