Mini Bio (1)

Philippe Joly is a French/Russian actor living in Hong Kong. He regularly plays the villain in action films across Asia, where he shared the screen with some of Asia's biggest stars, including Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau, Jackie Chan, Takeshi Kaneshiro, and more. He also faced Jean-Claude Van Damme in the film Pound Of Flesh. Philippe has a background in various martial arts and contact sports that he practiced growing up, which nowadays allows him to provide a certain physicality required by the action roles that he plays, and some of the stunt work needed in action scenes. As well as acting, Philippe has also written many screenplays, produced and directed a few independent films. He is fluent in 4 languages (French, Russian, Italian and English), and is an avid practitioner of close-up magic and card manipulation.

Trivia (1)

During the filming of a TV show in Hong Kong for the Russian TV channel Moya Planeta, Philippe Joly was speaking English and his voice was later dubbed into Russian when the show aired in Russia. This is ironic because Philippe Joly can actually speak Russian fluently. But because the show was filmed in Hong Kong, the producers preferred if all guests spoke English, in order not to confuse the Russian audience.
