An award-winning Dutch composer of music for over 40 films, commercials, and television shows, Joep, started playing the piano from the tender age of 5. Growing up in a creative family in the Netherlands, he gained a rich variety of musical influence, empowering him to become the multi-faceted composer he is today.
His ability to translate a client's brief with ease and quick confidence, coupled with his capacity to tell powerful emotional stories without words through high-quality music, has earned him recent successes including trailer placements which appear in Incredibles 2 (Disney-Pixar), The Nutcracker and the 4 Realms and Dumbo (Disney), additional music compositions for feature films, Gringa and Just Noise (2020), and he received global acclaim for his score for Dutch film "Kruimeltje" in 2020 for which he was nominated for a World Soundtrack Award.
Joep holds a Bachelor of Music in Education from the Maastricht Academy of Music, and a Master of Arts Design for Digital Cultures from the Utrecht School of the Arts. Before he finished his master's degree in 2011, Joep had already scored his first Dutch/Belgium feature film and in 2016 he was awarded the Young Talent Award at the Film Music Festival in Krakow, Poland. This award was presented to Joep by one of the jury members, Harry Gregson-Williams, "In recognition of his extraordinary musical cue that captures the overall dramatic arch of the animated sequence while also elegantly complimenting its many shifts of perspective and emotion."
Joep has been a member of the ProjectSAM team from 2010, known for its production of Orchestral Sample Libraries such as Symphobia and Swing! for film, television and game composers.
In 2018 he moved to Los Angeles to pursue his career as a film, television and commercial composer. As a composing fellow at prestigious ASCAP 2019 film scoring workshop in Los Angeles, he recorded and conducted his music at the Newman Scoring stage at 20th Century Fox. In 2019 he was presented with the ASCAP Harold Arlen Film & TV Award.
