First Trailer For ‘The Girl In The Spider’s Web’ Sells A Horror Movie

Sony Pictures have released the first trailer for ‘The Girl In the Spider’s Web‘, the latest cinematic iteration of author Steig Larson‘s Millennium saga. The reboot sees Claire Foy taking over the iconic role of Lisbeth Salander, with ‘Evil Dead‘ (3013) and ‘Don’t Breathe‘ helmer Fede Alvarez stepping into the director’s chair this time around. Although plot details are being kept under pretty tight wraps a this point, the film follows Salander and Blomkvist years after the events of ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo‘ as the two re-unite to uncover a new mystery from their own past.

The last time that we saw the character brought to the big screen was with David Fincher‘s 2011 big-budget remake of Larson’s original ‘Dragon Tattoo’ novel, but this trailer seems to be trying to differentiate itself from that film as much as possible, which is probably a good thing.

Claire Foy Delivers Vengeance in ‘Girl in the Spider’s Web’ Trailer
A tattooed Claire Foy is delivering vengeance as Lisbeth Salander in the first trailer for Sony’s “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

The trailer showed Foy — best known for portraying Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s “The Crown” — as she uses an intricate trap to capture a villainous husband, and then coldly telling him as he hangs upside down that he will turn over his assets to his abused wife.

“I’m a fan of yours — the CEO who beat up two prostitutes, but then got acquitted in court yesterday,” she says. “I’m transferring 20% of your cash to these two girls, the rest I’m transferring to your wife.”

She then tells the wife, who’s also been beaten up, “He won’t hurt you again.”

The studio decided two years ago to replace Rooney Mara with Foy as the precocious Swedish computer hacker for “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” sequel,

The First Trailer For The Girl In The Spider's Web Is Awesome

I'll admit, when I first heard Hollywood would be moving on with The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo franchise without Rooney Mara in tow, I was ready to hate all over it. David Fincher's take on the tale was awesome for me, and I thought it was a huge mistake when Hollywood ended up dropping it. Now that I've seen the first trailer for The Girl In The Spider's Web, however, I'm feeling a bit differently! Claire Foy makes for an intense Lisbeth Salander, and in the little time we get to see her on screen, I think she outshines Mara's by far. Read the synopsis for the film, check out the trailer, and continue reading:

Claire Foy Previews Intense ‘Girl in the Spider’s Web’ at CinemaCon
Claire Foy delivered plenty of intensity as Lisbeth Salander in footage unveiled Monday for Sony’s “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

The trailer showed an extremely pale Foy — best known for portraying Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s “The Crown” — as she uses an intricate trap to capture a villainous husband, played by Claes Bang, and then coldly and flatly tells him that he will turn over his assets to his abused wife.

Sony decided two years ago to replace Rooney Mara with Foy as the precocious Swedish computer hacker for “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” sequel, seven years after the original opened. Fede Alvarez, who helmed 2016’s “Don’t Breathe” for Sony, is directing.

“The character of Lisbeth is truly iconic…she’s very much a survivor,” Foy said Monday during the studio’s presentation for the nation’s exhibitors at the opening night of CinemaCon at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

HeyUGuys UK DVD/Blu-ray Round-Up – 13th August

  • HeyUGuys
Last week saw a great handful of international releases make their way onto our shelves, with Shion Sono’s Himizu and David and Stéphane Foenkinos’ Delicacy topping the list. And this week brings us another excellent set of international films for our enjoyment, along with a handful of classics getting the HD treatment.

We’ve also been enjoying the special Blu-ray Steelbook releases from Play.com over the past few months, in tandem with Universal’s 100th Anniversary, and now Paramount are entering the fray with two titles of their own getting a Steelbook re-packaging, for their own Centenary celebrations.

My picks of the week:

Morten Tyldum’s Headhunters.

And the Blu-ray releases of Shion Sono’s Love Exposure & the Steven Spielberg-produced Falling Skies – Season 1.

‘Headhunters’ not only merits a remake, it’s all but inevitable.

Headhunters

Directed by Morten Tyldum

Written by Lars Gudmestad, Jo Nesbø, and Ulf Ryberg

Norway, 2011

While American politicians abjectly deride the Scandinavians for being ‘pinko commies’, Hollywood has been taking notice of their considerable cinematic talent, finding every opportunity to import some of their best films for American remakes. David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Matt ReevesLet Me In are excellent examples, but no Scandinavian film will appeal to North American sensibilities more than Norway’s Headhunters.

The film stars Aksel Hennie as the titular headhunter, an enigma of a man who recruits corporate talent by day and steals valuable art pieces by night. When his wife (Synnøve Macody Lund), herself an art dealer, introduces him to an ex-intelligence mercenary turned electronics tycoon (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) at an art exhibit, his interest is piqued when he learns of the man’s possession of an invaluable painting.

May Preview: ‘The Avengers,’ ‘Dark Shadows’ and ‘Battleship’

Monthly Movie Preview – May 2012

Just like its slightly more competent sibling “Award Season,” the fatter movie season known as “Summer Movie Season” returns to roost every year to perpetuate the love for all of the wacky stories it can spin. Some of the stories are good, and some are laughably not so much. Usually, these stories are based off other stories, and sometimes these stories are based of other stories which started with one story. Most unsurprisingly, movies like Men in Black 3 pop up, even though no one asked for it in the first place.

Summer 2K12 is upon us, people of the internet, and there is much to be excited for. With a month that kicks off with The Avengers, and then features titles like Battleship, The Dictator, and yes, Men in Black 3, May is certainly going to be summer movie-tastic, and then some. And then, some more.

Twitch's Review Roundup: Headhunters Opens Today; Here's Why You Should See It

Opening today in New York and Los Angeles, Morten Tyldum's Headhunters is a blast of chilly air, a sleek thriller that's even better than it looks. Askel Hennie stars as Roger Brown, a corporate headhunter who is married to a beautiful, accomplished woman (Synnøve Macody Lund). Feeling insecure about their relationship, he moonlights as an art thief, in large measure to satisfy what he perceives to be her taste for luxury. Enter Clas Greve (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), a debonair and handsome potential client, who, it happens, collects expensive pieces of art. The fun is just beginning ... Kurt Halfyard saw the film at the Toronto International Film Festival and started the love-fest rolling: Headhunters is a perfect blend of cautious planning, earnest intent, and amusing...
