Raised in Miami, Florida, Peruvian-American, Sandra Powers, pursued experimental film studies at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts, receiving an MFA in film directing on a scholarship.
Her work has received a City of Los Angeles DCA grant, as part of the large-scale and multi-disciplinary project "The Silent Steppe Cantata" with celebrated composer Anne LeBaron and renowned opera singer Timur Bekbosunov. She is also a recipient of awards from Panavision, Eastman Kodak, Puffin Foundation, Center for Cultural Innovation, and Foundation for Contemporary Arts (FCA).
