Blue Fox Entertainment takes world on 'The Elephant And The Butterfly'

Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne among producers on Belgian family drama.

Blue Fox Entertainment has picked up world sales rights to The Elephant And The Butterfly, on which Martin Scorsese serves as executive producer, and will commence sales at the Efm.

Belgian filmmaker Amélie Van Elmbt directed the French-language film produced by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne and Delphine Tomson of Les Films de Fleuve.

Thomas Blanchard plays a young man who returns to his hometown and reunites with his former lover. Fate intervenes and leaves him alone in the care of the daughter he has never met. Judith Chemla and Lina Doillon also star.

Van Elmbt and Matthieu de Braconier wrote the screenplay. Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Chad A. Verdi and Michelle Verdi of Verdi Productions served as executive producers alongside Scorsese.

In film news today, David Dastmalchian has been cast as a high school teacher, Paul Greengrass is directing a film about terrorism for Netflix and Pearl Jam is releasing a documentary.


David Dastmalchian and Kevin Pollak will star in the independent psychodrama “Teacher” with shooting set for this month in Chicago, Variety has learned exclusively.

Dastmalchian, whose credits include “Ant-Man” and the upcoming “Blade Runner: 2049,” will portray a high school English teacher who goes to disturbing lengths to protect his favorite students from bullies. Pollak and Dastmalchian will be joined by local Chicago talent that includes Curtis Edward Jackson, Esme Perez, Helen Joo Lee and Matthew Garry.

The film is helmed by writer and director Adam Dick, who previously co-wrote and produced the feature “NightLights” and spent nearly three years developing “Teacher” for screen. Matthew Helderman of BondIt Media Capital and Buffalo 8 Productions are producing along with Zachary Kamen.

One of the biggest snubs of this year's Academy Awards, Silence, is making its way to digital and blu-ray, merely 3 months after being on the big screen. The Martin Scorsese religious feature, starring Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, and Liam Neeson will arrive on Blu-Ray on March 28th, but for audiences who can't wait that long the Digital HD version will be available March 14th.

Just in time for awards season this year, acclaimed director and master filmmaker Martin Scorsese unleashes the first trailer for Silence, the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson), at a time when christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden.

Andrew Garfield (of Amazing Spider-Man fame) and Adam Driver (Kylo Ren in Star Wars 7) play the two Jesuit priests in Slience, they are also joined by Liam Neeson who plays mentor to the pair. Recently, Paramount Pictures slated the movie for release on December 23 which would just barely make the cut-off date requirement for awards consideration. It's safe to bet that Silence will be a great cinematic endeavor as Martin Scorsese is known for his own unique visual style and remarkable skill as a storyteller.

Verdi Productions, Manga Entertainment and Rdz Productions are producing the documentary “Man in Red Bandana,” which focuses on late 9/11 hero Welles Crowther, Variety has learned exclusively.

The film is written and directed by Matthew J. Weiss. Chad A. Verdi and Joshua Sason are producing and Michelle Verdi exec producing.

Gwyneth Paltrow is set to narrate and Lyle Lovett is performing an original song.

Crowther was a 24-year old equities trader on the 102nd floor of the South Tower of the World Trade Center who’s credited with saving at least a dozen lives before the building collapsed. His heroics included carrying a woman on his shoulder down 17 flights of stairs.

His family was unaware of Crowther’s activities until his mother read a firsthand account in The New York Times of being saved by a man in a red bandana.

Miles Teller Boxing Drama ‘Bleed for This’ Gets November Release
Open Road Films has given an awards-season limited release of Nov. 4 to its Miles Teller boxing drama “Bleed for This” with a wide release on Nov. 23.

Teller stars as Vinny “The Pazmanian Devil” Pazienza, a local Rhode Island boxer who shot to stardom after winning two world title fights but was told he might never walk again after a near-fatal car accident left him with a severed spine.

With the help of trainer Kevin Rooney — portrayed by Aaron Eckhart — Pazienza was able to return to the ring to reclaim his title belt only a year after the accident.

Ben Younger directed from his own script. The movie also stars Katey Sagal, Ted Levine, Ciaran Hinds, Jordan Gleber and Amanda Clayton.

Martin Scorsese is an executive producer. Producers are Bruce Cohen, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Chad A. Verdi, Noah Kraft, Ben Younger and Pamela Thur.

Martin Scorsese Begins Shooting 'Silence' This January
Director Martin Scorsese has finally secured financing for his passion project Silence, which the filmmaker has been trying to get off the ground for the past 20 years. F&#225brica de Cine and SharpSword Films have come aboard to fully finance the film and produce, with production now set to begin on January 30 in Taiwan. Paramount Pictures announced in July that they will release the drama in November 2015, but Deadline's report reveals the studio is aiming for a 2016 release. Here's what Martin Scorsese had to say in a statement about Silence moving forward.

"I've wanted to make Silence for almost two decades, and it is finally a reality. It is heartening to have adventurous partners like Fabrica and SharpSword to work with on this picture."

Andrew Garfield is starring as one of two Jesuit priests who, in the 17th Century, take a journey to Japan to find their mentor who has abandoned the church.

The story follows Toby “Doc” Ebersole, who is haunted by Hank Williams’ ghost after his hand in the country singer’s death in 1953. Doc subsequently has his medical license revoked. Ten years later, now in the red-light district of San Antonio, Texas, Doc performs illegal medical procedures in order to purchase morphine, while still experiencing visits from Williams.

Almost Mercy Set Visit Turns Up Director Tom DeNucci Plus Stars Bill Moseley and Danielle Guldin

When asked what the hometown of horror is, Providence, Ri, doesn't immediately come to mind. But Woodhaven has become a prolific horror studio, located right in the heart of New England, and we recently visited the set of their newest film, Almost Mercy.

The location was a no-tell motel where, if the walls could talk…Omg, the stories they would tell! It was the perfect setting for one of the key scenes for the film. Director Tom DeNucci took some time out of his shooting schedule to talk about Almost Mercy and the progress of Woodhaven Productions.

"The film is definitely darker, definitely more sinister. It has a lot less of the campy throwback horror-comedy," DeNucci said. "However, it does have a very slick, cutting and mean dark comedy to it, which is fun. I've never had a chance to flex those muscles before. That I attribute to getting to work with B.

Almost Mercy Lands Distro in Huge 10-Picture Deal for Woodhaven Production; New Cast and Artwork Updates

We announced recently that Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder would be featured in the upcoming Almost Mercy. We've received a bunch of new casting info (including the signing of a Dr. Gash favorite!) and a mega distribution deal.

The two leads in Almost Mercy will be played by Danielle Guldin and Jessie Default. Also named to the cast will be horror legend Debbie Rochon (pictured; woo hoo!), veteran actor Fred Sullivan, Jr., Eric Nyenhuis, Tanja Lynch, Sean Leser and pro wrestler Michael Bennett.

Wrestling icon Tommy Dreamer is also scheduled to make a cameo appearance in the Woodhaven Production Company project.

"The cast is really coming together," said Almost Mercy writer/director Tom DeNucci. "We have talented fresh faces to go along with some decorated veterans of the genre. I'm thrilled to have these actors tell the story. It's a really eclectic bunch."

Woodhaven Production Company and Chad A. Verdi Productions have worked with some of the biggest names in horror, and now they are bringing in two more genre legends to star in their upcoming film Almost Mercy, written and directed by Tom DeNucci.

Both Bill Moseley and Kane Hodder will be featured prominently in the film.

It's not often we hear of a cast as unique as the one producer Chad A. Verdi and Woodhaven Pictures put together for their upcoming film Army of the Damned. So when we got an invite to visit the Rhode Island set, it was a no-brainer.

Headlined by horror legend Tony Todd, the cast was an amazingly diverse bunch, and we got a chance to talk to all of them about their experiences filming Army of the Damned. There were so many key contributors to this movie that we had to break our report into a two-part series; in this section we talk with Todd, horror mainstay Nick Principe, wrestling legend Tommy Dreamer, gorgeous wrestlers Maria Kanellis and Thea Trinidad and one of Army of the Damned female leads, Jackie Moore.

Producer Chad A. Verdi had already assembled a memorable cast for his current project, Army of the Damned, but the man behind Woodhaven Productions refuses to rest on his laurels.

Verdi has now added former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis and the infamous Jasmine St. Claire to the project.

Everyone has a favorite wrestling diva, but it is this writer's opinion that there has never been a more drop-dead gorgeous creature to enter the squared circle than Maria Kanellis. She is absolutely stunning, and as you can see by the still shot from Army of the Damned below, she's got no trouble getting into the action of a bloody horror film.

Kanellis and St. Claire are added to a very interesting cast. Verdi stated, "We have a very eclectic group of actors on this project: horror legends, rock and pop stars, TV and wrestling superstars, Playboy Playmates and the list goes on.

Woodhaven Productions Announces Filming Begins on Army of the Damned; Screen Media Buys Rights

Chad A. Verdi alerted Dread Central that his Rhode Island film company Woodhaven Productions has two big announcements today. Not only has Woodhaven begun filming its newest production, Army of the Damned, but the picture has already been sold to Screen Media.

The film was written and directed by Tom DeNucci and boasts a unique cast including horror legends Tony Todd and Michael Berryman, singer/actor Joey Fatone, Godsmack frontman Sully Erna, former professional wrestlers Tommy Dreamer and Thea Trinidad, a man who knows a thing or two about horror Nick Principe, David Chokachi, Jackie Moore and Tom Paolino. Filming will be done in East Greenwich, Warwick, Cranston and Providence, Ri.

Godsmacked! Rocker Sully Erna to Make Cinematic Debut in Woodhaven Films' Army of the Damned

"Keep Away," "I Stand Alone," "Cryin' Like a Bitch"... sounds like a description of Doctor Gash's high school years. Actually these are few kick-ass Godsmack songs, and lead singer Sully Erna has been named to the cast of Woodhaven Pictures' upcoming Army of the Damned.

This will be Erna's feature film acting debut, and he will be joined by a delightfully diverse cast. Producer Chad A. Verdi has also announced that horror legend Michael Berryman, entertainer Joey Fatone, professional wrestlers turned actors Tommy Dreamer and Thea Trinidad, as well as a man who knows a little something about scaring people himself, Nick Principe, have been added to the cast. Jackie Moore and Tom Paolino round out the list of players. The film will be directed by Tom DeNucci and begin filming in April with additional cast members yet to be announced.
