Sigmund And The Sea Monsters Review

One of the best bonuses to come out of the original streaming explosion is the launch of tons of new content for kids and family, and that includes a few throwback titles, like Amazon‘s Sigmund and the Sea Monsters.

The original show first aired when I was about two, and was part of a larger Sid & Marty Krofft world that became an integral part of ’70s culture. While there is much to be said for both incarnations of the wacky, family adventure, the best recommendation you can probably give for either is that the spirit of the Krofft effort is fueled by such a childlike imagination that you’re going to end up with something fun. For good or ill, the new effort feels like transporting yourself back in time, not just because the production isn’t exactly updated, but also because the mindset behind the creation isn’t different.

‘Beyond the Sun,’ in Which Pope Francis Plays Himself, Gets Vatican Premiere
Vatican City – “Beyond the Sun,” a simple but effective English-language children’s adventure film in which Pope Francis plays himself, premiered Wednesday at the Vatican, signaling a clear attempt by the pontiff and his communications advisors to use movies as a medium to spread the Catholic message to the young.

The pic, in which Francis appears for roughly six minutes, marks the first time that a pope has appeared in a motion picture.

Shot in Patagonia and Vatican City, “Beyond the Sun” is about five kids who run away from home after catechism class and take to the woods to look for Jesus in a hilltop sanctuary. The multi-ethnic cast features child actors Aiden Cumming-Teicher, Cory Gruter-Andrew, Emma Duke, Kyle Breitkopf, and Sebastiάn Alexander Chou.

Co-directed by Graciela Rodriguez (pictured), an Argentine psychiatrist whose rapport with Francis goes back a long way, and Charlie Mainardi, who has shot commercials for Coca Cola, the

Pope Francis Movie ‘Beyond the Sun’ Heading to Cannes
Ambi Pictures has wrapped production in Argentina on “Beyond the Sun,” with Pope Francis appearing as himself, and will launch international sales at the Cannes Film Festival.

Ambi announced the project last year, touting it as the first time that a pope has ever appeared in a feature film. Written and directed by Graciela Rodriguez, “Beyond the Sun” stars child actors Aiden Cumming-Teicher, Cory Gruter-Andrew, Emma Duke, Kyle Breitkopf, and Sebastiάn Alexander Chou.

The pope asked the filmmakers to develop a movie for children that communicates Jesus’ message and said he was willing to participate in the movie to support charity as all profits from “Beyond the Sun” will be donated to two Argentinian charities — El Almendro and Los Hogares de Cristo, which provide aid to at-risk children and young adults in need.

Ambi co-founders Andrea Iervolino and Lady Monika Bacardi produced the film and were advised by Monsignor Eduardo Garcia.

The Whispers: Will You Make Friends With ABC's Imaginative Drama?
Under the Dome. Extant. Falling Skies. The Whispers. All of these shows have one thing in common: Steven Spielberg.

The acclaimed director/producer has always had a knack for science-fiction, but when it comes to the supernatural ventures he produces for the small-screen, the results have been, well, underwhelming, to put it nicely.
