Real Madrid were the favourites for the game and it didn’t take them too long to take the lead. After just three minutes Daniel Carvajal fed the ball to Gareth Bale, who toe-poked his shot beneath Roman Weidenfeller.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 14th Champions League goal of the season to equal Lionel Messi’s record and seal a superb 3-0 victory against Borussia Dortmund.
Gareth Bale opened the scoring after just four minutes before Isco struck home a brilliant 20-yard effort to double Los Blanco’s lead. In the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo rounded the keeper for an easy finish before later leaving the field due to injury.
He almost doubled his advantage a few moments later as the hosts were storming, much like they did in the previous round, but Bale’s effort was disallowed for offside after he flicked the ball into the net.

The Bernabeu is a beautiful place to play football. Real Madrid is one of the richest clubs in the world, so being a Galactico has always had a certain irresistible lure to it.
Premier League stars who traded England for the La Liga giants now makes for a lengthy list. McManaman, Beckham, Owen, Ronaldo, and most recently Gareth Bale all spring to mind.
Yet, competition for a place in the Real XI is more cut-throat than ever. As Carlo Ancelotti took over from Jose Mourinho in the dugout, over £140 million was spent on recruitment with £100 million recouped in sales.
Arsenal accounted for £42.4 million of that latter figure by making Mesut Ozil their record buy on transfer deadline day. That purchase began to make us wonder whether we might see a reverse in the prevailing trend?
Is the Premier League now more of a lure than the bright lights of Madrid?...
