Luísa Sequeira is a director, visual artist and film curator. She transits in different platforms; video, film, theater, photography and collage, exploring the boundaries between digital and analog. She has a specialization in documentary filmmaking and a PhD in Media Art.
She directed the documentary feature film "O Que Podem as Palavras" (2022, co-directed with Luísa Marinho), which won the Doclisboa 2022 audience award; and "Quem é Bárbara Virgínia?", 2017, film that was screened in several film festivals: IFFR -International Film Festival Rotterdam, Doclisboa, Mostra de São Paulo, awarded at Porto Femme and at Caminhos do Cinema Português Festival. She has directed and produced several short films, among them, "Nascuta" (2019), "Os Cravos e a Rocha" (2016), "Memória, noun feminino" (2015), "La Luna" (2015), "Passageira" (2008) and "Mulheres no Palco" (2006).
Lately she has been collaborating with TEP, with expanded cinema and video art. She directed the videos for the theater play "A.N.T.I.G.O.N.A" and expanded cinema and real-time image manipulation for the show "Estro/ Watts".
She was selected for the filmmaking residency at Meta Cultural Foundation in Romania.
She held several exhibitions, among them, "A Luz da Estrela Morta" at Nuno Centeno gallery (2019), "O Tempo dos Outros", at Adorna gallery (2018) and at Centro Cultural do Mindelo (2019), "Crises Infinitas", in partnership with the artist Sama at Sput&nik the Window gallery. She has exhibited her videos in several spaces: Anca Poterasu Gallery in Bucharest, 1st BCK Film Symposiumm in Athens, Cinema Museum in London, Mostra Videolatinas in Brazil (2021).
In 2022 Luísa Sequeira participated in the 13th Kaunas Biennale and in the group show "Corpos-Manifestos" in Maus Hábitos, held the exhibition "Cine Constelação" at Masc Foundation in Vienna, curated by Sput&nik the Window (2022), and was part of the group show "Em Residência", with the artists Ana Efe and Carla Cruz at MUSAU in Vienna, Austria.
She collaborates with expanded cinema in the project "Carne Poética", a female performative triad with poems by the poets Li Alves and Maria Giulia Pinheiro.
In television, she coordinated Fotograma (2007), a magazine of her authorship dedicated to cinema in Portuguese language.
In 2022 she wrote and directed "Rosas de Maio", a co-production of TEP with Rivoli, a theater piece and expanded cinema that premiered at Rivoli.
Since 2010 she is the artistic director of Shortcutz Porto and the Super 9 Mobile Film Fest.
At the moment she is working on the animation project "Ave Marias" with artist Sama and producing the series "As Pioneiras do Cinema em Língua Portuguesa".
