Power Rangers Samurai have now become Power Rangers Super Samurai. As the brand name continues to go strong in its 21st year, the show really hasn’t changed that much in any way shape or form. That can be seen as both a negative and a positive. The important thing to remember is that Power Rangers has always aimed specifically at its young audience. It hasn’t expected fans to return year after year for the last 20 years, and as such the formula remains the same. A group of teens join together to become brightly coloured superheroes, they face some life challenges, a monster appears, they doubt themselves, they win, monster becomes big, Power Rangers summon their giant robots, fight, the end.

Synopsis:

The epic battle begins as a new Power Rangers Samurai team unites to take on the evil Master Xandred in a race to save the world.

Growing up in the early 90s meant only one thing for a boy – Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was the greatest show on TV. Each and every week we’d tune in to watch a group of boring teenagers fight against Japanese stock footage in the most thrilling of fashions. It was a show that sparked controversy which meant we couldn’t act it out in the playgrounds of schools and the provider of a mental childhood scar as my parents wouldn’t buy me any of the toys.

Now, nearly 20 years after it was first broadcast,

DVD Review: Power Rangers Samurai – The Team Unites

Power Rangers Samurai: The Team Unites

Stars: Hector David Jr, Brittany Anne Pirtle, Rene Naufahu, Felix Ryan, Kate Elliott, Steven Skyler | Directed by Peter Salmon

Confession time: I have a soft spot for the Power Rangers. From the very first time I saw the original series debut in an early morning slot on ITV, to the shows recent marathon showings on satellite channel Kix!, I’ve kept up with the franchise even if I haven’t seen every episode. For me the show lost it’s way a little once Disney took the reigns – they obviously chose to aim the series at a younger audience than previously, often toning down the violence and over-simplifying the shows stories (it’s especially obvious if you take a look at the original Far East iteration of the show). So when news broke that Saban had bought back the rights to the series

Power Rangers is nearly 20 years old. That’s nothing when compared to Super Sentai, the Japanese series it based on, that show is pushing 40. If anybody ever labelled Power Rangers a fad, then they were proven wrong on the most epic of scales. Part of its longevity is due to the constant reinvention of time, space, and the rangers themselves while always keeping the ingredients that work. For those of you who are unaware of the Power Rangers, they are usually a group of teenagers trained in martial arts that can morph into great warriors and fight monsters from other dimensions.

Power Rangers Samurai is the latest series and having not watched Power
