Review: I Feel Pretty

This is the Pure Movies review of I Feel Pretty, starring Amy Schumer, Michelle Williams, Tom Hopper, Rory Scovel, Adrian Martinez, Emily Ratajkowski, Aidy Bryant, Busy Philipps, Lauren Hutton and Sasheer Zamata, and directed by Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein. The trouble with I Feel Pretty is, whichever way you approach it, chances are you won’t be doing so impartially. Before it had even been released, the controversy surrounding Abby Kohn and Marc Silverstein’s movie meant it had garnered a certain notoriety that implicitly provokes reactions. Schumer detractors, body-positivity champions, misogynists - all were given the ammunition to derive whatever they wanted from it prior to actually seeing it, requiring any genuine response to actively have to wrestle with this bias. This review, in and of itself, cannot hope to avoid this pitfall. What it does hope to do, though, is to tune out any preconceived notions of

Amy Schumer Puts a New Twist on Classic Pick-Up Lines (And They're Nsfw)

Amy Schumer Puts a New Twist on Classic Pick-Up Lines (And They're Nsfw)
Get your mind out of the gutter, Amy Schumer!  We'd never expect the comedienne to keep things PG, but Schumer really took it to the next level when E! News quizzed her and her co-stars from I Feel Pretty on classic pick-up lines.  Whereas Busy PhilippsSasheer Zamata and Rory Scovel aced one-liners like "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?," Amy had a much different idea on what it takes to score a date. For example: When asked to complete "Are you wearing space pants because...." the actress fired back, "your d--k is out of this world!"  Not quite, Amy. It's because your derriere is out of this world!  ...

‘I Feel Pretty’ Review: Amy Schumer’s Body Positive New Rom-Com Is No Train Wreck

‘I Feel Pretty’ Review: Amy Schumer’s Body Positive New Rom-Com Is No Train Wreck
The last time that Amy Schumer starred as the female clad of a major romantic-comedy, her casting was treated as some kind of subversive act. And, to a certain extent, maybe it was. On the one hand, a blonde, white, able-bodied comedienne on 3,000 movie screens probably shouldn’t be hailed as the Jackie Robinson of meet-cutes just because she wasn’t Weird-Scienced by a focus group of horny teenage boys in a secret Hollywood lab. On the other hand, when some male critics are inspired to say things like “there’s no way she’d be an object of heated romantic interest in the real world,” it’s all too easy to appreciate why Schumer had to write her own role if she ever wanted to play the lead in a mainstream love story.

What a difference three years makes. For one thing, Schumer no longer has to write her own movies.

‘I Feel Pretty’ Directors Say They Were ‘Disappointed’ After Backlash From Trailer

‘I Feel Pretty’ Directors Say They Were ‘Disappointed’ After Backlash From Trailer
At the Los Angeles premiere for comedy “I Feel Pretty” starring Amy Schumer, the directors and cast addressed the negative reaction the trailer generated after the film’s message was perceived to be that confidence stems solely from body image.

The film follows Schumer’s character Renee who has low self-esteem until she hits her head and wakes up feeling beautiful and confident. Nothing physically has changed about Renee, but when she looks in the mirror she considers herself “undeniably pretty.”

On the red carpet, co-writers and co-directors Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, who have worked together for more than 20 years writing films such as “Never Been Kissed” and “The Vow,” agreed that people should see the movie instead of guessing the message based on the trailer. “We were disappointed because people were discussing a movie that they hadn’t yet seen, which always is going to leave a lot of holes in their understanding,

Aidy Bryant Chooses Roles Carefully After Being Sent ‘Demeaning’ Scripts Where Her ‘Body Is the Punchline’

Aidy Bryant Chooses Roles Carefully After Being Sent ‘Demeaning’ Scripts Where Her ‘Body Is the Punchline’
Saturday Night Live” favorite Aidy Bryant co-stars in the upcoming comedy “I Feel Pretty,” which received criticism following its trailer debut for being fat-shaming and insensitive to people struggling with body weight issues. The film stars Amy Schumer as an insecure woman who suffers a head injury that causes her to feel confident and beautiful in her looks. Bryant recently shared a photo with Schumer and co-star Sasheer Zamata, but an angry fan slammed the movie in the comments section.

“I won’t be supporting a movie that continues to perpetuate fat phobia and the notion that for a woman to be confident she needs to look a certain (read: thin, white, rich) way,” the commenter wrote. “The previews are extremely problematic and as a fat woman in Hollywood, who has thousands of fat girls who look up to you, I hope you will consider the message this film sends.

‘Saturday Night Live’: Alec Baldwin Says There Have Been Many Gay Male Cast Members — They Just Weren’t Out
The heated discussion surrounding “Saturday Night Live” and its inclusion (or lack thereof) of gay cast members rages on, because — of course — Alec Baldwin is Tweeting.

After comedian James Adomian spoke to The Daily Beast regarding his belief that “Saturday Night Live” has an issue when it comes to casting out gay men, “SNL’s” current designated Trump impersonator tweeted a link to the article with the snarky comment, “My dream is to, one day, be as gifted, as brave, as all-knowing as @jamesadomian.”

— ABFoundation (@ABFalecbaldwin) March 17, 2018

Baldwin then followed up by suggesting that people “consider the source” in regards to Adomian’s claims, clearly suggesting that his resentment came from a place of bitterness:

Do you think he has a problem with them? Based upon what? The bitter recriminations of those he didn’t hire?

Captain Marvel Loses DeWanda Wise

Just three months after coming aboard to star in Captain Marvel, actress DeWanda Wise has been forced to back out of the project, due to scheduling complications. The actress was brought on as an unspecified character in early January, just days after Netflix issued a Season 2 renewal for the hit series She's Gotta Have It, which stars DeWanda Wise as the lead character Nola Darling. The actress' Captain Marvel schedule ultimately conflicted with the She's Gotta Have It Season 2 schedule, leading to the actress backing out of Captain Marvel.

There is no word yet on who may replace DeWanda Wise in Captain Marvel, or even what character she'll be playing. When DeWanda Wise joined the cast in January, no details were given about her character, or whether or not the character has any connections to Marvel comics characters. While Marvel Studios hasn't officially announced the start of production on Captain Marvel yet,
