Cumron Ashtiani (also known as Ron Ashtiani) started his career in the entertainment industry in 1997. First as a digital artist and animator, then as an art director, creative director, studio founder/director and entrepreneur.
From 1997 to 2009 he worked in the video games industry for several high profile studios. In this time he worked on 9 titles, most notably John Carpenter's THE THING, the Battalion Wars games for Nintendo and Wheelman with Vin Diesel.
In 2009 he founded his own visual design studio, Atomhawk. Which he grew from a team of 4 into an international leading brand with studios in the UK and Canada. The business won 8 awards under his stewardship and it was during his time with Atomhawk that he worked on 3 Marvel movies, including Thor 2, Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers Age of Ultron. He also worked on numerous TV shows, Pottermore for J.K Rowling and over 30 video games.
He sold Atomhawk to Sumo digital in 2017 and joined their management team, they then went on to float the combined group of companies on the London stock exchange. Ron stayed with Sumo Group PLC as a managing director until 2019.
After a period of working in Venture Capital as a Venture Partner and Investor, he joined the board of SockMonkey studios in 2020 as Chairman and also Steamforged games as a board director. In 2021 he co-founded a new creative services agency called Big Thursday Creative as Chairman. In 2023 SockMonkey studios was successfully sold to Behaviour interactive (Montreal) and became Behaviour North UK
Outside of his work in business, he is still a passionate artist and has written 3 books including the Art of Atomhawk 1&2 as well as an educational book on art direction for games and film called The Art of Direction (2022)
He has also been listed in the BIMA top 100 in digital media in 2015, and the GiBiz UK top 100 people in video games in 2017. He is a full member of BAFTA.
