Does ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Have a Post-Credits Scene?

Does ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Have a Post-Credits Scene?
Like many a big-screen sequel, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” rewards fans willing to stick through the bitter, bitter end of the credits after the movie ends.

Yes, writer-director Ol Parker’s new movie musical — a sequel to 2008’s hit “Mamma Mia!” — has a post-credits scene.

And while the brief vignette doesn’t tease a third installment in the franchise, a mash-up of classic Abba songs with a convoluted soap operatic plot, it does provide a fun bonus scene that calls back to one of the new film’s biggest scene-stealers. (Spoiler alert: Stop reading now if you don’t want to know the contents of the bonus scene.)

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Review: Abba-Fab Sequel Suffers From Streepless Throats

The first Mamma Mia was a huge hit (close to $610 million worldwide box-office) a decade ago, despite critics making every effort to drive a stake into its Abba-singing heart. And now the global stage smash-turned-hit film rises again in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Don’t bother to get your stakes ready. Like Trump voters, fans of this jukebox-musical franchise see only the good in it, despite irrefutable evidence to the contrary.

Even Abba apostles will have to admit it hurts that Meryl Streep is barely in the film,

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again Review

If you find yourself wilting under the oppressive heat of a summer’s day, you’ll need something airy and insubstantial to chase your cares away. And this summer Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is the movie most likely to sweep you up in its irresistible wake and leave a smile on your sweaty, sunburned face to boot.

The young, naive, newlywed Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) we left behind in 2008’s Mamma Mia has been replaced by a self-assured and independent woman. We join her in a time of contemplation as she prepares to open a revamped and refined Hotel Bella Donna. Stuffing envelopes and singing Thank You For the Music in poignant acknowledgement of her mom’s contribution to the big day.

Meanwhile another life is being lived in another place and time. A life lived in explosive colour, with infectious smiles and impetuous decisions. This is Donna’s

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Is ‘Charming’ and ‘Joyful,’ Critics Say
“Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is “everything you ever want” and “everything you ever need,” critics are saying.

“Much like its predecessor, ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ is escapist fluff of the highest order — joyful, filled with beloved pop songs and incredibly bizarre,” wrote Chicago Tribune’s Katie Walsh. “Go ahead and treat yourself to this raucous seaside summer confection, you deserve it.”

TheWrap’s film critic Nicholas Barber wrote in his review, “as for the writer-director, Ol Parker, he doesn’t come up with any urgent artistic reasons for the existence of its follow-up, ‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,’ but he does make it surprisingly watchable, and he manages to overcome some mountainous obstacles.”

Movie Review – Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (2018)

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, 2018

Written and Directed by Ol Parker

Starring Lily James, Amanda Seyfried, Christine Baranski, Pierce Brosnan, Dominic Cooper, Colin Firth, Andy Garcia, Stellan Skarsgård, Julie Walters, Alexa Davies, Josh Dylan, Jeremy Irvine, Hugh Skinner, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Cher, and Meryl Streep

Synopsis:

In this sequel to Mamma Mia!, Sophie learns about her mother’s past while pregnant herself.

Full disclosure: I have never actually seen the original Mamma Mia! and also have no knowledge of the Catherine Johnson musical it is based on, which itself is a story initially considered by Judy Craymer. Really, the only thing I knew coming into the sequel were the basics of the plot and the songs featured from Abba. However, the part of me that came into this lively, upbeat, romantic fantasy musical expecting to completely loathe it for its extreme dissonance from reality actually came only surprised and satisfied to a degree.

Can ‘Mamma Mia’ Sequel Repeat Original’s Runaway Box Office Success?

Can ‘Mamma Mia’ Sequel Repeat Original’s Runaway Box Office Success?
Ten years ago, while “The Dark Knight” and “Iron Man” were ushering us into a new age of superhero blockbuster domination, “Mamma Mia!” was waving the flag for Abba fans and mid-budget movies alike. Now Universal is hoping to repeat that success with the new sequel “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.”

In 2008, “Mamma Mia!,” which was made on a $52 million budget, earned a modest $27 million opening weekend while serving as counter-programming to “The Dark Knight,” which opened the same weekend.

But while Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” film became a cultural phenomenon and grossed over $1 billion worldwide, “Mamma Mia!” quietly endured for two months at the box office, earning over five times its opening with a domestic run of $144 million.

‘Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again’ Cast Sings in ‘Dancing Queen’ Lyric Video (Watch)

The cast of “Mamma Mia!” is back, and so is one of the film’s — and Abba’s — most recognizable songs. On Wednesday, Universal Pictures released a lyric video to “Dancing Queen” as a preview to the highly anticipated sequel, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.”

Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Dominic Cooper, and Amanda Seyfried are among the returning cast members who recorded on the track. The video features their ensemble vocals while teasing several new colorful visuals from musical numbers set to hit theaters on July 20.

“See that girl! Watch that scene!” the familiar audio rings as Seyfried skips gleefully along the island trails, followed by an animated entourage of Greek villagers in a scene that channels Meryl Streep’s energy from the original film. Seyfried will reprise her role as Sophie, now an expectant mother who is eager to learn more about her own mother’s past.

Kevin Spacey Returns: ‘Billionaire Boys Club’ Distributor Explains Why the Disgraced Actor’s New Film Is Opening This Summer
Kevin Spacey has been accused of sexual harassment and assault by numerous men, but that’s not stopping Vertical Entertainment from releasing the actor’s new film in theaters this summer. “Billionaire Boys Club,” directed by James Cox, reunites Spacey with “Baby Driver” co-star Ansel Elgort in the story of young men attempting to strike it rich by planning a Ponzi scheme. The movie was shot in 2015 and early 2016, long before the allegations against Spacey surfaced in fall 2017.

“We hope these distressing allegations pertaining to one person’s behavior — that were not publicly known when the film was made almost 2.5 years ago — do not tarnish the release,” Vertical Entertainment said in a statement to The Wrap.

“We don’t condone sexual harassment on any level and we fully support victims of it,” the indie distributor continued. “At the same time, this is neither an easy nor insensitive decision to release this film in theaters,
