Jay Sherer's directorial debut, No Vacancy, earned him the RED Movie Award for Best First-Time Director and a RED Movie Awards honorable mention for Best Screenplay. No Vacancy has earned additional recognition from Top Shorts, the Big Apple Film Festival, the Los Angeles Film Awards, the L.A. Neo-Noir Novel, Film, and Screenplay Festival, and the Fortean Film Festival.
No Vacancy (co-written and co-directed by Jay) is a proof-of-concept, prequel short for The Harlequin, a low-budget thriller script. No Vacancy and The Harlequin were inspired by works like Knives Out, Stranger Things, Watchmen, and Unbreakable. Combined, the scripts for No Vacancy and The Harlequin have nine accolades on Coverfly as each script placed in over four or more competitions.
Jay's past projects include the full-cast audiobook (and novel), Death of a Bounty Hunter, which he directed and co-wrote with his collaborator, Nathan Scheck. The audiobook also has a TV pilot of the same name attached to it. The novel version of Death of a Bounty Hunter earned the #1 spot on Coverfly for "book/manuscript" of the month. The pilot script placed in three contests.
In addition to those projects, Jay has co-written and co-produced multiple short films and other books (including Timeslingers, a time travel adventure serial).
