- Genevieve Davis is an independent producer/director/writer/designer with an artist's eye. Davis has received many design and painting commissions from ballet, opera and theater companies, designers, museums & film producers. She holds a B.A. from Beloit College in Anthropology and a B.S. and M.F.A in Art and Dance Television Production from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She also studied in Italy from the Italian Renaissance masters and did post-graduate work in Elvio Marchionni's art studio in Italy. - Davis speaks Spanish, Italian and a very little French and German.
- Davis has done cavalry impressions in Civil War reenactments as well as refugee impressions. She has also presented a period artist's studio at a Early American, 16th century Scottish and Renaissance reenactments.
- Filming was a journey for me through those dark emotions-like Orpheus going down to Hades and then coming back up. This three-year journey of making the film is allowing me to live in a better world. There were actually four people in my family that didn't get to have this peace. They died early. It's a very dangerous thing to keep family secrets.
- Secret Life, Secret Death is an art film. There wasn't some censor telling me what I could and couldn't do. I just started shooting. I am a rebel.
- It's OK to have those family secrets. Some female ancestors have led incredibly difficult lives because of the social mores of the time. If you look with compassion and understanding at these things that were kept secret, you can bring healing to your family.
