Did You Know?
He was born in Amritsar to a relatively wealthy family. As a child he wanted to be a Bollywood actor, before gravitating towards a career as a chef. When he was 19, he left India to train in classical cooking in Salzburg, Austria. After graduation, he got a job at a hotel in Banff, Alberta, a resort area in the Rocky Mountains. He opened his first restaurant in Vancouver in 1994.
