British/ Persian composer Ram Khatabakhsh began his musical career at the age of 6 when he first started playing the keyboard. By the age of 11 was attending formal piano and music lessons and exploring different musical genres. Inspired by cinema and the musical scores from his favorite films, Ram began to compose seriously at the age of 15.
In 2008, Ram achieved his Bachelor's degree in Music Composition (BMUS) at the respected Kingston University in London. During his time at BMUS he was selected to write an orchestral composition for a public performance at London's Southbank Centre, as well as being invited to the Royal College of Music's prestigious composer workshop as the sole representative for his university. Once there, he worked closely with the noted British conductor and film/television orchestrator, Christopher Austin ('Hyde Park on Hudson').
On graduating, Ram began scoring for independent films, television and corporate projects. That same year he launched his own music production company, Motion Sound Production, so that he could offer a more coherent musical package to film and television directors, producers and corporate clients.
In a short space of time, Ram has composed music for international award-winning feature films; short films, documentaries, animations and television talk shows; as well as commercials and corporate videos for prestigious companies such as Ford, Nestle, Rapha, ViiV Healthcare and Maersk Oil.
In 2011 Ram scored 'The Fifth Horseman', which was nominated by EMMY in 2012 for the Best Drama, and the multi-award winning documentary 'Piracy: The Human Cost' and 'With Good Intentions' which he worked on with sound designer Glenn Freemantle (Gravity). In 2013 he was selected by 'The Mill' from dozens of composers to score a £2.3million corporate video for Riyadh Metro System and later that same year he was selected, out of thousands to attend the prestigious Berlinale Talents 2014 as part of Composers and Sound designer's selection.
Ram's uniqueness is his varied musical style and his ability to effortlessly score a scene on the spot with orchestration. He has a rare sensitivity to the mood and an innate understanding of the type of music that will complement a scene without dominating it. Many entertainment industry professionals have labeled Ram as 'an exceptional talent' with a 'rare gift' and an 'extraordinary musical ear with originality'.
The multi-lingual British composer credits his musical gift to his passion for his craft, his unique background merging British and Persian sensibilities, and a deep love and appreciation for filmmaking.
