Monika's filmmaking passion started very early. As an eleven year old she started to shoot horror movies together with her twin sister Martina. Upon finishing high school, the "Plura Twins" shot over 60 shortfilms, from all kind of genres (horror, stop motion, black comedy, dramas...) Filmmaking was more than just a hobby. In addition to school, Monika worked in the cinema behind the popcorn counter, so she could watch all the films for free. After lots of internships with different film productions, she studied at two filmschools.
2008 - 2012 Monika made her Bachelor in "Film" at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg (HFBK). Her mentors were Wim Wenders and Pepe Danquart.
From 2012 - 2014 Monika studied "Cinematography" at the Hamburg Media School (HMS) and graduated with a Master of Arts.
She shot several short movies and documentaries, which won a lot of prizes - national and international.
Monika also conducted workshops for children and teenagers about filmmaking. In 2011 she received the scholarship of the Johanna Loewenherz Foundation for her artistic and pedagogic work in filmmaking.
In 2015, directly after graduation, Monika photographed her first feature for german TV "Vorstadtrocker". Her sister Martina was the director. The film was honored with an award for the "best television feature" on the 37th Biberacher Film Festival.
There followed two more feature films together with her twin sister and several films and series together with other directors.
Monika lives in Hamburg and works as a freelance DoP. Next to the cinematography, Monika's second passion is script writing together with her twin. She would love to shoot for Netflix one day.
