Ryan won the BAFTA Cymru for Best Cinematography for 'The Poet Who Loved the War: Ivor Gurney'. He has since been nominated three further times for his work on 'American Interior' in 2014, 'The Fight' in 2019 & 'Grav' in 2022 - which also won 'Best Film' - BAFTA Cymru.
In 2022 Ryan shot Alice Lowe's feature film 'Timestalker' (BFI) starring Alice Lowe, Jacob Anderson, Nick Frost, Tanya Reynolds, Aneurin Barnard & Kate Dickie, which screened at SXSW, Fantasia, Edinburgh, Locarno, Sitges and Dinard festivals before it's release in 86 cinemas and is out now on Apple TV, Amazon Prime & BFI Player and last year shot 6 episodes of 'Doctor Who: Tales of the Tardis' for Bad Wolf. Ryan has just wrapped shooting all 6 episodes of the first series of BBC One show 'Death Valley' starring Timothy Spall and Gwyneth Keyworth with director Simon Hynd, which will be broadcast on BBC One early next year, and and has recently just wrapped shooting 'Let's Love' starring Martin Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, Malin Akerman, Jess Weixler, Craig Roberts & Chloe Jouannet with director Jamie Adams, an improvised feature film shot over 6 days. Ryan has just been Long Listed for 'Best Cinematography' at The British Short Film Awards 2024 for 'Mother's Day'.
In the last 20 years, Ryan has shot 15 feature films, the notable films being Dolly Wells' 'Good Posture', Jessica Hynes' 'The Fight', Alice Lowe's 'Prevenge', 7 feature films for Jamie Adams, and 2 feature films for TV.
